Qatar Participates in 6th Arab High-Level Conference on the Rights of the Child

The State of Qatar participated in the 6th Arab High-Level Conference on the Rights of the Child, which was held under the motto of an effective and sustainable developmental investment guaranteeing the rights of the Arab child, with the participation of ministers and heads of national mechanisms concerned with childhood affairs in Member States, and relevant regional and international organizations.

The virtual conference sought to shed light on the 2030 Child Development Agenda, as the sustainable development plan represents an opportunity to address the main development challenges in the Arab world with the aim of promoting the rights of all children.

In his speech during the conference, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development and Family Mubarak Ghanem Al Kuwari said that the State of Qatar attaches great importance to the protection and promotion of children’s rights, setting it as a priority in its development plan, which relies primarily on investing in human capital.

He also stressed the State of Qatar’s keenness on providing the necessary facilities and the appropriate healthy environment for a good upbringing for all children on its territory, noting that the state is keen on the complementarity of the protection and care programs provided to children with legislation guaranteeing children’s rights.

Al Kuwari added that the Ministry of Social Development and Family operates through its specialized departments and supervised centers that provide social security services, especially for the most vulnerable groups, the most important of which are children. He highlighted the role of social security networks in meeting the necessary protection, support, and rights for children that are universally recognized such as health, education, and psychological well-being.

The Assistant Undersecretary for Social Affairs also pointed out that social security programs and networks dedicated to children contributes to achieving the goals of sustainable development, particularly those related to reducing poverty, improving children’s lives and providing them with basic needs and educational opportunities in order to improve their chances of future success.

Al Kuwari pointed out that the Ministry of Social Development and Family offers an array of social programs protecting children and enhancing their well-being, including community awareness and educational programs on children’s rights, in addition to offering psychological and social support programs for those facing challenges within the family unit, in addition to offering comprehensive care programs through specialized centers dedicated to children with disabilities.

At the end of his speech, he reiterated the State of Qatar’s continuing efforts in protecting the rights of children, and ensuring their upbringing in a safe, healthy, clean, and sustainable environment as a top priority in all plans and policies.

In turn, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector of the Arab League Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazala highlighted the importance and objectives of this conference, adding that the conference’s outputs will contribute to developing a road map for planning and implementing public policy on children affairs taking into account sustainable development.

Labour Minister opens Career Expo 2023

Labour Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan inaugurated today “Career Expo 2023”, which was held by Bahrain Polytechnic at its headquarters in Isa Town. The event was attended by Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, the institute’s Board of Trustees Chairman, Labour Ministry Undersecretary Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Bahrain Polytechnic Chief Executive Dr. Ciarán Ó Catháin and invitees.

The exhibition aims to boost vocational guidance for the students of the institute by informing them about the jobs available in the labour market and highlighting the market’s needs for various specialties, mainly in the technological and knowledge-based sector.

The Minister of Labour affirmed the government’s awareness of the key contribution of the public and private higher educational and training establishments as a social partner in synchronizing the educational and training output with the labour market needs. He pointed out that those initiatives will be supported by launching a national employment skills platform to serve the students, employers and all concerned people with the future of the labour market.

The Minister of Labour commended cooperation between the Labour Ministry, Bahrain Polytechnic and the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), which resulted in the signing of many memoranda of understanding to train and groom the new graduates with specialties difficult to integrate the labour market. He lauded, in this context, the strategy of Bahrain Polytechnic to upgrade the educational and training system, mainly in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector and artificial intelligence.

Bahrain Polytechnic Chief Executive, Dr. Ciarán Ó Catháin, underscored the institute’s constant keenness to provide a platform for its graduates to communicate directly with the employers and pave the way for them to take up future jobs.

The Minister of Labour toured the participating pavilions alongside the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, the Board of Trustees Chairman of Bahrain Polytechnic, and the attendees.

Saudi Stock Exchange Main Index ends trading lower at 11014 points

Saudi Stock Exchange’s main index ended trading lower today, losing 125.85 points to close at 11014.13 points.

The total value of trading reported was SAR 11.7 billion, while the total number of shares traded was 341 million, reports SPA.

The Saudi Parallel Market Index (NOMU) ended the day by gaining 335.24 points to close at 21278.26 points, with a valuation of SAR 55.2 million.

King of Jordan holds talks with Malaysian monarch

King Abdulla II Ibn Al Hussein of Jordan today received Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah of Malaysia, currently on a visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The two monarchs reviewed long-standing relations binding the two countries and peoples, stressing keenness on expanding cooperation and bolstering coordination towards supporting the Arab and Islamic causes.

The two sides also discussed regional and international developments, focusing on the Palestinian cause and efforts to settle regional crises through political solutions, said Jordan News Agency (Petra).

Third Bahrain Baby Games kick off tomorrow

The third Bahrain Baby Games, organized by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) will kick off tomorrow.

The event will be under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), General Sports Authority Chairman (GSA) and BOC President.

Commencing at 4.30 pm with the arrival of the sponsor of the event accompanied by the playing of the Royal Anthem, followed by a series of performances from the participants.

After that, the crawling competition for 12-month-olds will start, then the baby walker competition for children under 15 months, then the show queue for representatives of the participating nurseries and kindergartens.

British ambassador meets the political elites, sheikhs and notables in Cyrenaica.

The UK Ambassador to Libya, Caroline Hurndall, met yesterday with political elites, sheikhs, and notables of Cyrenaica in two separate meetings held at the Libyan Center for Strategic Studies and National Security at its headquarters in Benghazi.

The first meeting included the UK ambassador with the political elites in Benghazi, while the second meeting was with the sheikhs and notables of Cyrenaica, and the various social components in the region participated in it.

During the two meetings, a fruitful discussion took place with the British ambassador, where they stressed the need for Britain to strongly support the dialogue tracks to reach the presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya.

The participants also stressed the need to create a bridge of communication between civil society institutions in Libya and Britain.

For her part, Hurndall reviewed the efforts made to move forward in the tracks of dialogue, stressing that the meetings are continuing to reach positive results that include reunification, unity of the country, protection of its borders, and benefiting from its resources.

Hurndel added that the British government hopes to increase relations and commercial interests with Libya, highlighting that the ceiling of trade exchange between the two countries exceeded one and a half billion Libyan dinars.

“This meeting is an advanced step by the Libyan Center for Strategic Studies, which works to provide research services and studies needed by Libyan society within the framework of preparing qualified cadres capable of decision-making,” she added.
