Ooredoo Reports 43% Increase in Net Profit in Q1

Ooredoo reported a 43.17% rise in net profit for the three-month period ending March 31, 2023 to QR 960.566 million in comparison to a net profit of QR 670.900 million for the same period of the previous year.

According to a statement by Ooredoo posted on Qatar Stock Exchange website, the company’s Earnings Per Share (EPS) amounted to QR 0.30 as of March 31, 2023 versus EPS QR 0.21 for the same period in 2022.

Dukhan Bank also disclosed a 5.56% increase in net profit for the three-month period ending March 31, 2023 to QR 413.961 million in comparison to a net profit of QR 392.141 million for the same period of the previous year.

The bank’s EPS amounted to QR 0.076 as of March 31, 2023 versus EPS QR 0.072 for the same period in 2022.

Qatar Cinema and Film Distribution Co. also announced a 29.64% increase in net profit for the three-month period ending March 31, 2023 to QR 1.994 million in comparison to a net profit of QR 1.538 million for the same period of the previous year.

The company’s EPS amounted to QR 0.031 as of March 31, 2023 versus EPS QR 0.024 for the same period in 2022.

Meanwhile, Widam Food Company revealed a net loss of QR 17.372 million for the three-month period ending March 31, 2023 in comparison to a net loss of QR 7.045 million for the same period of the previous year.

Its loss per share amounted to QR 0.10 as of March 31, 2023 versus loss per share QR 0.04 for the same period in 2022.

Qatar Participates in Meeting of Undersecretaries of GCC Ministries of Youth and Sports

The Ministry of Sports and Youth participated in in the 39th meeting of the undersecretaries of the GCC ministries of youth and sports that was held on Wednesday in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Youth Abdulrahman bin Musallam Al Dosari represented the State of Qatar in the meeting, which came in preparation for the upcoming 36th meeting of the committee of ministers of Youth and Sports in the GCC states.

During the meeting, several topics related to sports and youth fields were discussed, including plans of the relevant ministries in GCC states to develop and promote the joint gulf action to advance youth sector.

A wide range of critical recommendations were also discussed in this framework, in addition to discussing the decision issued by the esteemed supreme council in its 43th session held in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia last year, pertaining to the advisory body’s plans dedicated to enhancing the joint action in the area of digital transformation and modern technologies, as well as other topics that were discussed during the meeting.

Ethiopian Government, Separatist Group Agree to End Conflict

The Ethiopian government announced on Wednesday it had finalized the first round of negotiations with a splinter group that defected from Oromo Liberation Army (OLA).

The talks of the first round of negotiations that were convened in Tanzania made a breakthrough, Ethiopian Government Communication office said in a statement, noting that there a need for further discussions to settle the pending differences between the two sides.

The two parties agreed to complete the talks to end conflict and restore sustainable peace in Oromia region, the office added, stressing that the federal government reaffirmed, during the talks, its unwavering commitment to peaceful solution to the conflict through dialogue and negotiations based on the country’s constitution.

Meanwhile, Addis Ababa government is hopeful of achieving a complete and sustainable peace in the country with various militant groups, specially after the signing of Pretoria peace deal with Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) on Nov. 22, 2022.

National Cyber Security Agency Participates in RSA Conference

National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) participated in the global cyber RSA Conference in San Francisco, US, with the attendance of tens of thousands of cyber security leaders and experts at the global level.

NCSA was represented by its Director of National Cyber Fusion Affairs Ahmed Mohammed Al Hammadi, where he gave a presentation, during one of the sessions, on Qatar’s cyber achievements, its hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the agency’s cyber plans and its preparations to confront potential cyber risks before, during and after that tournament.

Al Hammadi called for countries to cooperate with each other to ensure a safe cyberspace, urging the countries hosting the next edition of the World Cup in 2026 to share information and tools to ensure a successful tournament.
