Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah spoke by telephone today with Foreign Minister Anniken Scharning Huitfeldt of Norway.

The two ministers discussed the continued escalation of military operations in Gaza and its surroundings, the resulting harm to unarmed civilians, and the importance of the international community playing its role to stop military operations and prevent the forced displacement of Gaza citizens.

The Saudi foreign minister stressed the need for Israel to adhere to international humanitarian law, including allowing food and relief supplies to reach Gaza and lifting the siege on it. He emphasized the importance of working to find a just and comprehensive political solution to the Palestinian cause, ensuring security and stability in the region and the world.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Speaks with Brazilian Counterpart

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah spoke by telephone today with Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira of Brazil.

The two ministers discussed the ongoing escalation of military operations in Gaza and its surroundings and the international efforts made in that regard. The Saudi foreign minister emphasized the rejection of targeting defenseless civilians in any way and the importance of respecting the international humanitarian law by all parties. He called for lifting the siege on Gaza.

The Saudi minister urged Brazil, in its capacity as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, to work to ensure that the council fulfills its responsibility to maintain international peace and security by pushing for an immediate cessation of military operations. He stressed the importance of the Security Council’s implementation of its decisions regarding the Palestinian issue, particularly Resolutions 242 in 1967, 338 in 1973, 1515 in 2003, and 2334 in 2016, to establish a just and sustainable solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with the relevant international references.

GCC Secretary General: GCC States Always Participate in Meetings to Address Crises Like Poverty, Food Security

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi has said that the participation of the council member states in the annual meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) confirms the great interest they attach to participating with the international community to find solutions to many economic problems, including the eradication of poverty and enhancing food security.

This came during Albudaiwi’s participation today in the annual meetings of the World Bank and the IMF in the city of Marrakesh, Kingdom of Morocco.

The secretary general stated that the GCC countries constantly strive to engage in meetings and conferences aimed at addressing economic crises such as poverty and food security and their effects, adding that the council member states are also keen to provide support and introduce initiatives and solutions that would reduce the repercussions of these crises and problems in the world.

He emphasized the collective responsibility to confront and eliminate poverty by supporting developing and impoverished nations, a commitment he said the GCC member states consistently uphold.

The secretary general stressed the necessity of creating a unified global guide that keeps pace with and confronts the new interconnected global challenges caused by natural variables such as climate change and the crises that the world is witnessing due to conflicts and wars. Activating this guide would help mitigate the impacts of these changes and enhance local, regional, and global employment opportunities. He also discussed the necessity of developing appropriate digital infrastructure, which will play a crucial role in addressing economic crises, including the issue of global poverty.

Regarding climate change and its effects, he stated that the GCC countries are determined to confront the impacts of climate change, which significantly affect global poverty rates.

This commitment is demonstrated through hosting conferences, events, and initiatives aimed at finding suitable solutions, he said, adding that Qatar is currently hosting Expo 2023 Doha, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is preparing to organize COP28 at the end of this month, and Saudi Arabia has introduced the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative.

In conclusion, Albudaiwi expressed his hopes that the discussions and deliberations during the annual meetings of the World Bank and the IMF would yield results and recommendations that effectively contribute to combating global poverty and reducing its impact.

KSrelief Distributes 5,900 Date Cartons to Syrian Refugees and Host Community in Lebanon

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has distributed 5,900 cartons of dates in Wadi Khaled in Akkar Governorate, Miniyeh, in North Lebanon and Naameh in Mount Lebanon Governorate, benefiting 29,750 individuals, as part of the date distribution project in the Republic of Lebanon.

The project comes as part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s efforts through KSrelief to improve the living conditions and providing basic foodstuffs for Syrian refugees and the host community in Lebanon.

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad to patronise Gulf Disability Society’s 21st annual scientific forum

Manama, The Kingdom of Bahrain will host the 21st annual scientific forum for people with disabilities, to be organised by the Gulf Disability Society, in cooperation with the Arabian Gulf University on October 17-19.

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Youth and Sport First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, will patronise the event, themed “Integrating Persons with Disabilities in University Education- Opportunities and Challenges”.

The scientific forum features four plenary sessions, three training workshops, and tourist tours for the participants.

It will attract 150 activists, including civil society leaders, experts, academics, cadres, and people with disabilities, from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and other Arab countries.

The plenary sessions will discuss 16 research papers that address the following topics: Preparation for the integration of people with disabilities into university education, the use of technology in integration, and mechanisms for integrating people with disabilities into higher education.

A special session will be devoted to highlighting the successful experiences in university integration for students with disabilities. It will focus on the experiences of the University of Bahrain, the Gulf College in Oman, Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training in Kuwait, in addition to those of the Technical College and Taibah University in Saudi Arabia.

The research papers to be presented by academics from the GCC countries, Egypt and Morocco use new scientific methods and tools, such surveying students with disabilities to measure the extent of their readiness for university education, as well as conducting field studies on the services provided to disabled students at universities, the uses of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in university integration, and the university’s role in reducing their psychological, social, and educational problems.

The forum will include three training workshops aimed at providing families, teaching staff, and university students with disabilities with specific skills in order to promote university integration.

It will also include a panel discussion that will issue recommendations presented by the Gulf Disability Society to decision-makers, civil society and the media in the GCC countries.

Shaikh Duaij bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Honorary President of the Gulf Disability Society and one its founders, expressed thanks and appreciation to HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad for patronising the event, noting that His Highness had patronised the 19th edition, themed “Disabilities Sports: Challenge and Ambition”, which ensured its success.
