Al-Murtada: Prisoner exchange process will begin on Friday, 23rd of Ramadan

The head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs, Abdul Qadir Al-Murtada, confirmed that the committee had received a letter from the Red Cross, that the prisoner exchange process would begin tomorrow, Friday.

Al-Murtada said in a tweet to him on Twitter: “After all parties announced their readiness to implement the agreed deal, we were informed by the International Committee of the Red Cross that they will start implementation from tomorrow, Friday, Ramadan 23 1444 AH, corresponding to April 14, 2023 AD.”

He added, “We ask God for success and help in making this deal a success and in liberating all the

prisoners.”

Shura Chairman praises implementation of open Prisons Programme

Shura Council Chairman, Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, has lauded the commencement of the implementation of the second phase of the Alternative Sentencing Law or the “Open Prisons Programme”, in line with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s sound vision, and in implementation of the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Al-Saleh commended the efforts exerted by the Interior Ministry, led by Minister, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, in this regard, praising its constant endeavours to continue developing the alternative penalties programme to advance the criminal justice system and enhance social security.

The Interior Ministry’s efforts reflect the kingdom’s ongoing efforts to protect human rights during HM the King’s prosperous era, he said,

He highlighted the positive results of the alternative penalties and open prison programmes, as they contribute to gradually integrating the beneficiaries into society, enabling them to participate effectively in developing society.

He also paid tribute to the Public Prosecutions, civil society and various institutions for their contributions to ensuring the success of these programmes, aimed at rehabilitating convicts, reducing the criminality rate and achieving social stability.

Oman welcomes Bahrain-Qatar agreement to resume diplomatic relations

The Sultanate of Oman has welcomed the accord between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Qatar on resuming diplomatic relations, following the Bahrain-Qatar Follow-up Committee’s second meeting held at the GCC Secretariat General in Riyadh.

In a statement issued by the Omani Foreign Ministry and posted by the Oman News Agency (ONA) today, the Sultanate said that the step will lend support to cooperation among brethren and consolidate the GCC joint action in a manner that generates gains for all in the region.

GCC Secretary General welcomes resumption of diplomatic ties between Bahrain and Qatar

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, has welcomed the resumption of diplomatic ties between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Qatar, following the success of the second meeting of the Bahraini-Qatari Follow-up Committee, which took place at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the GCC here.

The GCC chief applauded this blessed step, which stems from the directives of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC countries that were issued at the “Sultan Qaboos and Shaikh Sabah Summit” which was held in Al Ula, Saudi Arabia in January 2021, adding that those instructions embody the GCC leaders’ keenness to secure the future and protect the cohesion of the Council in line with key attributes of the links connecting the Council member states, including the bonds of kinship, friendship, brotherhood, history and common destiny, and unity which are the pillars of the GCC blessed march.
