Gold Rises as Bets Increase on Halting Interest Rate Hikes

Gold prices rose for the third consecutive session Thursday, as lower-than-expected US inflation data boosted bets that the Federal Reserve (US central bank) may raise interest rates again next month and then halt the increases.

Gold in instant transactions rose 0.1% to $2016.99 per ounce, while US gold futures rose 0.3% to $2,030.70.

As for other precious metals, silver increased in spot transactions by 0.1% to $25.50 per ounce, platinum settled at $1015.06, and palladium rose 0.3% to $1464.16.

The US State Department stated that it is aware of reports regarding the detention of an American citizen in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

A spokesman for the ministry told the American news channel ( CNN ) We are aware of reports about the detention of a citizen in Tripoli , Libya .

The channel quoted the spokesman as saying, “When a US citizen is detained abroad, the ministry works to provide all forms of assistance required. The US State Department and our embassies and consulates abroad have no greater priority than the safety and security of US citizens abroad.”

And according to (CNN), according to the travel instructions of the US State Department, Libya comes in the fourth level, due to warning Americans against traveling to this country due to the spread of crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, and armed conflict, she said.

Egypt and Turkey agree on the need to complete the elections process in Libya as soon as possible.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister, “Sameh Shoukry,” and his Turkish counterpart, “Mevlut Cavusoglu,” agreed on the necessity of completing the elections process in Libya as soon as possible and preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Shoukry said in a joint press conference with Davutoglu today, Thursday, in Ankara, that the talks session that was held today dealt with developments in Libya and the common desire to unify Libyan institutions.

For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu confirmed that his country will work with the Egyptian side to strengthen cooperation on Libya, pointing to his country’s desire to develop joint relations with Egypt.

Davutoglu added that the problems in Libya affect Egypt, pointing out that restoring relations with Egypt would be against the interests of terrorist groups in the region.

He continued, “We want to develop joint relations with Egypt, especially economic ones … and we want to fill the new page that we opened with Egypt with joint projects and success stories.”

Al-Manfi and Al-Dabaiba discuss government spending and elections

The President of the Presidential Council, Muhammad al-Manfi, met Thursday with the head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba.

The Prime Minister’s Media Office said that the meeting, which was held at the Cabinet Office, focused on discussing ways to support international and local efforts to hold the elections and make them successful, and to support the efforts of the UN envoy Abdullah Batili in this regard.

The two sides also followed up on government spending for the current year, emphasizing the principle of disclosure and transparency in all procedures, and supporting the efforts of the local administration by activating the municipal file in all aspects.

DERIAN FLIES TO SAUDI ARABIA FOR UMRAH
