Director of the Maghreb and Malta Department at the World Bank calls for the adoption of policies that should be undertaken by the Forum of Development Partners in Libya

Tripoli The Director of the Department of the Maghreb and Malta at the World Bank, Jesko Hentschel confirmed that there are a number of broad policies that should be undertaken by the Forum of Development Partners in Libya, which focus on medium- and long-term support, and that the political situation in Libya remains fragile, which makes thinking short-term and forces institutions to think in the short term.

In a speech delivered at the beginning of the work of the Development Partners Forum – Libya – on Wednesday, Hentschel called for the organization of a forum every 3 months with the participation of international parties to rethink and take liberational steps and develop directions and policies for cooperation with the state, resident experts and other institutions, to develop a methodology that addresses development in the medium and long term, and determine the costs resulting from it and the effects of the Corona pandemic and the rest of the crises.

“When we look at the data we have collected by WFP standards, he said, adding that it showed that two-thirds of the population in Libya does not have food security and needs support from all parties, and this will become a target of this forum.

Vice President of Presidential Council discusses with Minister of Transport ways to overcome difficulties facing projects related to the sector

Tripoli Vice President of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, followed up with the Minister of Transport of the Government of National Unity, Mohammed Al-Shahoubi, what the ministry has achieved during the past period, and ways to overcome the difficulties facing projects related to the sector.

The minister stressed, during the meeting held on Wednesday, the continuation of field visits to identify the problems of road infrastructure, pointing to some of the difficulties facing various municipalities, especially road projects.

For his part, the Vice President of the Presidential Council stressed importance of improving the road infrastructure in all cities, and the need to complete many stalled projects, and start other new ones in the field of roads and transportation services.

Tripoli The World Bank’s Resident Representative in Libya Henriette von Kaltenborn-Stachau confirmed that the World Bank has been working in Libya since 2004 and that on this occasion it looks forward to expanding the areas of bilateral partnership, whether with local institutions or others, leading to the completion of work at the local level.

In a speech during her participation in the work of the Development Partners Forum – Libya – which began its work in Tripoli today, she said, “We are engaged in the reconstruction of Libyan cities that have witnessed recent events, in partnership with the United Nations Development Fund and other relevant institutions, to address the challenges the country is going through. “We are partnering with academic bodies that represent a significant contribution to the implementation of the tasks entrusted to them, especially in the fields of development and reconstruction, according to the Economic Forum, and working in cooperation with Libyans to hold more such forums, to be an opportunity to discuss other issues, she added.
