Participants in Paris Conference on Libya committed to holding elections on set time.

Tripoli, US Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday affirmed the United States’ commitment to diplomatic work to promote stability, democracy and justice in Libya.

In a tweet via her official account Harris commenting on her participation in the Paris conference on Libya on Friday, said “I discussed at the Paris conference the work we are doing to help the Libyans.”

Algeria stressed the need to hold the scheduled Libyan elections on set time, 24th of December, describing this date as a Libyan date for Libya par excellence.

This came in a speech delivered by Foreign Minister, Ramtan Lamamrah, at the Paris Conference on Libya yesterday.

In his speech on behalf of President Abdel Majid Tebboune, Lamamra called at the conference for the Libyan people to be given the freedom to choose their leaders in the upcoming elections without external pressures.

Britain, whose representative James Cleverly Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa was present at the conference, called on the Libyan people and the international community to work together to strengthen Libya’s sovereignty, stressing the need for withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from the country without delay.

Cleverly said ‘the political process in Libya is at a crucial stage, calling on the Libyans and the international community to unite around a framework for free and fair presidential and parliamentary elections next December.

The British minister also called on the Libyan institutions to cooperate and settle immediately in order to agree on a final and comprehensive set of electoral laws.
