Participants in expanded forum on electoral eligibility welcome holding of elections on the 24th of December without obstruction.

Tripoli, Participants in the expanded forum on electoral eligibility held today in Tripoli issued a statement welcoming holding of elections on set time, based on the outcome of the political dialogue meeting, which brought together all Libyan political parties under the auspices of the UN mission.

“Adhering to the will of the Libyan people in choosing their leadership and legislative authority is the only way to achieve greater security, stability and prosperity, and to end all manifestations of fragmentation and division,” the statement stressed.

In their statement, the participants underscored need for commitment to holding the elections on set time on the 24th of December, and not to allow them to be obstructed or emptied of their content.

The final communique stressed the forum‘s commitment to the fact that the elections should be conducted on a constitutional basis, as stipulated in the afore-mentioned roadmap, which must be dealt with and implemented as an integrated package.

The statement stressed that presidential elections without a constitution or constitutional rule are a dictatorial project, no matter what the results were, stating a rejection of the current laws and elections issued by the Presidency of the House of Representatives because they are contrary to the constitutional declaration and political agreement and are legally challenged and not based on any political consensus.

“Rejecting electoral laws does not mean rejecting the principles of elections and those who passed these flawed laws are the first obstacles to the elections, it said.

The statement called on the National High Electoral Commission to abide by neutrality and that its decisions should be in accordance with the constitutional declaration and political agreement.

The final statement held the President of the High Electoral Commission and a number of members of the House of Representatives, who are complicit with him and those who support them internally and externally, responsible for the serious consequences that undermine all the answering steps in support of stability, confidence-building and reducing polarization among Libyans.
