The UN Envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily, urged notables and social leaders to actively participate in providing full support for the electoral process and supporting the conduct of peaceful and fair elections this year.
According to tweets from the UNSMIL yesterday, this occurred during Bathily’s meeting with a group of notables and social leaders from the eastern region on the margins of the 5+5 JMC and military and security leaders in Benghazi..
The mission indicated that the notables stressed their commitment to national reconciliation and to an inclusive political process to ensure that presidential and parliamentary elections are held in 2023.
The UNSMIL said that the meeting was held as part of Bathily’s initiative to enable elections through a comprehensive track.
