A delegation from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conducted a field assessment of the humanitarian needs for Sudanese refugees fleeing to the border areas of Chad that host the biggest number of refugees.
The delegation was briefed on the coordination role played by the National Commission for the Hosting and the Reinsertion of Refugees and Repatriated with donors and humanitarian partners.
The delegation met with the governor of Sila, a Chadian region bordering Sudan, and the U.N. High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) country representative to check on the provision of humanitarian assistance and pending needs.
The delegation also checked on information about the building of camps that aim to host thousands of refugees, who will be relocated from the current temporary sites.
Several humanitarian agencies, including the U.N. World Food Program (WFP), Doctors without Borders, and the French Red Cross, as well as several international and national NGOs attended the briefing along with the OIC to present their contribution to the partners’ efforts in support of refugees.
Moreover, the OIC delegation made a visit to Zaboud, where a new camp is being constructed to host 35,000 refugees, representing 7,000 families. The families are scheduled to be relocated from Ade village and Ademour, a temporary camp hosting thousands of refugees.
In Ademour, the delegation talked to groups of refugees to check on their living conditions.
