OIC Delegation Conducts Field Assessment of Humanitarian Needs of Sudanese Refugees in Chad

A delegation from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conducted a field assessment of the humanitarian needs for Sudanese refugees fleeing to the border areas of Chad that host the biggest number of refugees.

The delegation was briefed on the coordination role played by the National Commission for the Hosting and the Reinsertion of Refugees and Repatriated with donors and humanitarian partners.

The delegation met with the governor of Sila, a Chadian region bordering Sudan, and the U.N. High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) country representative to check on the provision of humanitarian assistance and pending needs.

The delegation also checked on information about the building of camps that aim to host thousands of refugees, who will be relocated from the current temporary sites.

Several humanitarian agencies, including the U.N. World Food Program (WFP), Doctors without Borders, and the French Red Cross, as well as several international and national NGOs attended the briefing along with the OIC to present their contribution to the partners’ efforts in support of refugees.

Moreover, the OIC delegation made a visit to Zaboud, where a new camp is being constructed to host 35,000 refugees, representing 7,000 families. The families are scheduled to be relocated from Ade village and Ademour, a temporary camp hosting thousands of refugees.

In Ademour, the delegation talked to groups of refugees to check on their living conditions.

GCC Secretary-General Reiterates Council’s Call to Safeguard Syria’s Territorial Unity, End Suffering of its People

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi underscored the council’s unaltered position calling for safeguarding the territorial unity of the brotherly Syrian Arab Republic and respecting its sovereignty.

Citing the statement of the GCC’s Supreme Council during its 43rd session, Albudaiwi reiterated the council’s rejection of regional interference in Syria’s internal affairs, stressing the need for continued efforts to put an end to the suffering of the brotherly Syrian people.

Albudaiwi’s remarks came during his participation in the seventh Brussels conference on “Supporting the future of Syria and the region.”

He also said that the GCC welcomed the U.N. Secretary General’s renewal of the Security Council’s cross-border aid operations into Syria for 12 months, underlying the move’s contributions to alleviating the large-scale suffering of the Syrian people and their economic distress.

Regarding the practical steps taken towards a gradual solution to the Syrian crisis, Albudaiwi said that the GCC also welcomed the Arab League’s decision to reinstate Syria and Arab efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis through the “step-by-step mechanism” put forward during the May 1 consultative meeting in Amman of the ministerial contact and follow-up committee.

He also noted that the GCC member states have extended more than $8 billion in assistance to Syria since the outbreak of the crisis, adding that more than two million Syrians live in the GCC countries and enjoy all rights and incentives that ensure them decent living conditions.

More than 4,000 violating cars in capital Sana’a seized

The traffic police, with the participation of the Traffic Control Unit, and the Sana’a Traffic Department, seized 4,505 unmarked and unnumbered violating cars during the period from Shawwal 18 to Dhu al-Qi’dah 24.

The traffic police stated the violating cars were seized during the field campaign when the Police were carrying out in the Capital Sana’a, and included cars without customs, removing license plates, customs without numbers, driving opposite the roads, overturning the bottles of cars and taxi buses, and other traffic violations.

The Police stated in a statement that more than 8, 584 traffic violations were seized, including lifting dilapidated and scrap cars, random parking, and assaults on sidewalks, among others.

The statement pointed out that more than two 2, 685 pledges were issued to violators to abide by traffic etiquette and rules in order to ensure the safety of all and to reduce congestion and traffic accidents.

It confirmed the continuation of its field campaigns to seize unmarked and unnumbered cars that violate traffic rules and restore traffic discipline, based on the general directives issued by the leadership of the Ministry of Interior.

The statement called on all violators to quickly correct their situation and go voluntarily to the demarcation and numbering centers so that their cars would not be subject to seizure, stressing that violators will not be released from seizure until after they pay all the traffic violations registered on them and pay the fines resulting from removing the plates.

It called on everyone to cooperate and adhere to traffic rules to enhance traffic safety.

Fisheries condemn Eritrean assault on Al-Khokha fishermen

The Ministry of Fisheries condemned on Thursday the attack on a number of Yemeni fishermen by Eritrean forces during a fishing trip in Yemeni territorial waters.

In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the Ministry stated that fisherman Malik Mohammed Abdullah Geyrd of the Khokha district of Hodeida had suffered a gunshot wound that resulted in the loss of his left eye, while his six companions were forcibly detained in Eritrean prisons.

This attack and Eritrean maritime piracy crimes and its flagrant attacks on Yemeni fishermen constitute a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law. To call upon the international community and human rights organizations to act to halt these ongoing crimes against Yemeni fishermen.

It commended Yemeni fishermen ‘ pride in their profession and their reliance on them to provide food for their families under aggression and blockade.. called on the Eritrean side to cease its violations of fishermen’s rights and respect for maritime interests in international waters.

The Ministry of Fisheries called on the international community to take a clear and explicit position to hold the Eritrean authorities accountable for their acts of aggression against fishermen in territorial waters. Confirmed that Yemen would vigorously defend its people and protect its territorial waters.

Al-Manfi and Al-Koni discuss with the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya the results of his meeting with officials of the International Monetary Fund.

The President of the Presidential Council, “Muhammad Al-Manfi” and the deputy in the Council, “Musa Al-Koni”, met today, Thursday, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, “Al-Siddiq Al-Kabeer”.

Al-Kabeer briefed the Council on his meetings in Washington with officials of the International Monetary Fund, and the Fund’s reports on the Central Bank’s performance in managing the country’s financial affairs, according to what the Presidential Council published on its official Facebook page.

During the meeting, public spending was followed up and the importance of emphasizing the principle of transparency and disclosure of government expenditures, and the issuance of reports in this regard.

The representative of the Presidential Council, “Musa al-Koni”, met today, Thursday, in the council’s office in Tripoli, a delegation of southern women.

In her turn, the Minister of State for Women’s Affairs, “Houriya Al-Turman” praised women in the south for their desire to raise their competence in many fields, stressing that the ministry will continue to support women in the regions of Libya so that they can achieve their aspirations to serve their country.
