Libya condemns the Israeli aggression on the Palestinian city of Nablus

Tripoli– Libya condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ storming of the Palestinian city of Nablus, which led to the death of (10) Palestinian citizens and the wounding of more than a hundred others.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that Libya rejects the aggression against the Palestinian people in Nablus, and called on the active state organizations to take all necessary measures to protect the Palestinian people from aggression and continuous violations of all the rules of international and humanitarian law and human rights.

The ministry reiterated the firm position of Libya and the Libyan people towards the just Palestinian cause and its permanent solidarity with the brotherly Palestinian people.

In the presence of (Batili), the international contact group on Libya holds a meeting in Washington

Tripoli– The International Contact Group on Libya will hold a meeting in Washington today, Thursday, in the presence of representatives of America, Britain, France, Germany and Italy, and representatives of Qatar, the Emirates, Turkey and Egypt.

Al-Quds Al-Araibi newspaper quoted diplomatic sources as saying that the UN envoy Abdullah Batili and representatives of Qatar, the UAE, Turkey and Egypt will attend the meeting, which will be held on Thursday.

The international contact group includes ambassadors and special envoys to Libya of the United States, the United Kingdom and France, as well as Italy and Germany, in addition to Egypt and Turkey, which are the countries most involved in the Libyan file.

Prior to the meeting, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that it is important to move to the electoral stage as soon as possible so that the government enjoys legitimacy and is elected by the people.

On Tuesday, the UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batili, arrived in the United States to brief the Security Council on the situation in Libya on February 27, after his last briefing last December.

The President of Niger reveals efforts to release 3 key figures in Libya from prison

Tripoli – The President of Niger, Mohamed Abu Azum, revealed efforts by his Congolese counterpart, Denis Sassou Nguesso, to release three other key figures in Libya who are being held in prison.

Abu Azoum was speaking to reporters at the end of a two-day visit to the Congolese capital, Brazzaville, on Wednesday evening, as the crisis in Libya dominated the discussions between the two presidents.

The President of Niger praised the results achieved only three days ago in Libya, where a former official from the Gaddafi era was released from prison, referring to “Abdullah Mansour”.

He said that there are three other key figures (whose names he did not mention) whom President Sassou Nguesso is persuading the authorities to release, according to Nigerian media reported today, Thursday.

Abu Azum added, “This is a big step that will be taken in the context of national reconciliation, as the solution to the Libyan problem can only come from Africa and not from anywhere else.”

As soon as Abdullah Mansour was released from prison, he went directly to Niger, where he landed at Niamey airport and was received by a representative of the country’s presidential protocol, according to what was revealed by the local newspaper “Niger Acto” yesterday, Wednesday.

The newspaper added that the former Libyan official was returned to Niger at the request of the family, where the Awlad Suleiman tribe, from which “Mansour” descends, thanked in a press statement the presidents of Niger and Congo-Brazzaville, who heads the high-level African committee for Libya.

Central Bank to issue electronic cards at value of (100) thousand dollars annually for small traders

Tripoli– The Central Bank of Libya announced, Thursday, its intention to issue electronic cards (MasterCard – Visa) at a value of $100,000 annually, to small merchants, as of the first of next March.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the bank said; “ In order to facilitate and encourage small merchants with individual licenses and industrial and service companies”, the Central Bank of Libya decided, during the meeting of the bank’s governor, Al-Siddiq Al-Kabir with the concerned departments, to issue an electronic card (MasterCard and Visa) at the value of $100,000 annually as of 1st of March.

Central Bank and US Agency discuss training programme

Tripoli– The Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Al-Siddiq Al-Kabeer, discussed, Thursday in Tripoli, with the representative of the United States Agency for International Development in Libya, John Cardenas, the stages and implementation steps of the agreement signed between the two parties in the areas of training, in the presence of his assistants and the Director of the Control Department, on Banking and Cash, Governor’s Adviser for International Relations.

The discussions touched on the meetings of the Central Bank with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, the role of civil society organizations, the dealings of the Central Bank, and the controls and procedures regulating their work.

During the meeting, Al-Kabeer praised the training programme being implemented by the US Agency for International Development to raise the capacity and efficiency of the Central Bank’s employees.

For his part, Cardenas praised the good relations with the Central Bank of Libya and the support of the US Agency for the sovereign institutions in Libya, efforts to unify the Central Bank, and training and capacity-building programmes for the employees of the Central Bank, stressing the desire of the American side to provide assistance and technical advice to the Central Bank of Libya.

US delegation briefed on HNEC level of readiness to conduct elections

Tripoli- Members of the High National Elections Commission Council met, Wednesday; at HNEC premises in Tripoli, with the representative of the United States Agency for International Development, John Cardenas, and his deputy, Nathan Park.

The Commission stated that this visit of the American delegation comes within the framework of the international community’s support for the democratic process in Libya, to be acquainted about the level of HNEC readiness to implement the electoral processes, and to inquire about the type of support that USAID can provide in the field of managing and implementing the elections to enhance the level of readiness of the Commission to implement the upcoming entitlements.

During the tour of the Commission’s headquarters, the American delegation was briefed on the equipment and facilities of the Media Center and the Commission’s warehouse.
