The President of Niger reveals efforts to release 3 key figures in Libya from prison

Tripoli – The President of Niger, Mohamed Abu Azum, revealed efforts by his Congolese counterpart, Denis Sassou Nguesso, to release three other key figures in Libya who are being held in prison.

Abu Azoum was speaking to reporters at the end of a two-day visit to the Congolese capital, Brazzaville, on Wednesday evening, as the crisis in Libya dominated the discussions between the two presidents.

The President of Niger praised the results achieved only three days ago in Libya, where a former official from the Gaddafi era was released from prison, referring to “Abdullah Mansour”.

He said that there are three other key figures (whose names he did not mention) whom President Sassou Nguesso is persuading the authorities to release, according to Nigerian media reported today, Thursday.

Abu Azum added, “This is a big step that will be taken in the context of national reconciliation, as the solution to the Libyan problem can only come from Africa and not from anywhere else.”

As soon as Abdullah Mansour was released from prison, he went directly to Niger, where he landed at Niamey airport and was received by a representative of the country’s presidential protocol, according to what was revealed by the local newspaper “Niger Acto” yesterday, Wednesday.

The newspaper added that the former Libyan official was returned to Niger at the request of the family, where the Awlad Suleiman tribe, from which “Mansour” descends, thanked in a press statement the presidents of Niger and Congo-Brazzaville, who heads the high-level African committee for Libya.
