President of Presidential Council in an interview with Reuters: Serious steps taken in Libya towards settlement over December elections.

PARIS, Serious steps are being taken in Libya towards a settlement over elections scheduled for December as part of a peace process, presidential council president Mohamed Al Mnefi said.

“We must be optimistic and hope that there will be elections on set time, by consensus of Libyans on December 24th,” Al Mnefi said in an interview with Reuters.

“We are trying as much as possible to end this process in a democratic, transparent and acceptable manner to all Libyans on December 24th, so that we hand over power to an elected authority and that there are no differences over the candidates, to whom the provisions of the electoral laws apply,” he said.

Tripoli, Ministry of Interior reviewed with the Director of Tarhuna Security the latest work done in securing election centers.

The meeting was held by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for District Affairs, Major General Bashir Al-Amin this morning with the Director of Tarhuna Security, Brigadier General Noureddine Al-Mishaal to discuss the latest work accomplished in securing the election centers.

The meeting, which was held at the ministry’s office in the capital, Tripoli, reviewed the security situation within the city of Tarhuna, according to what was published by the official page of the ministry.

Tripoli, The High National Election Commission withdrew news of rejecting of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi’s candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections, less than an hour after it was published.

The withdrawal of the news of rejection of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi’s candidacy is the second news that was withdrawn in less than 48 hours, and the third news that the Commission withdraws from its official page in less than three days and which was related to conditions of candidacy.

Eyewitnesses in Zliten: Office of High National Election Commission closed.

Zliten, Witnesses in Zliten, 150 km east of Tripoli, reported Monday that the Office of the High National Election Commission was closed.

A member of the crowd, who gathered in front of the city’s UNHCR office, said in a telephone conversation with the Libyan News Agency that the citizens closed the UNHCR office and will issue a statement at 4 p.m. explaining the reason for the closure.

In a statement to Lana: source in electoral management (Mountain-1) confirms office stopped work today after security broke up gathering rejecting candidacy of Saif Gaddafi.

Gharyan, A source in the electoral management office (Jabal-1) said work in the office was temporarily suspended on Monday, after some enthusiastic youths opposed to Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi’s candidacy for the presidency gathered Monday morning in front of the management headquarters in Gharyan.

The source, who asked not to be named, said in a telephone conversation with the Libyan news agency that the problem was resolved after the competent security agencies dispersed the gathering, and took security measures, and that the management office will be business as usual tomorrow.

According to Lana correspondent in Gharyan, the situation remains tense and unclear, and all kinds of developments possible, especially since some of the young people reported that they will close the headquarters of the management this evening and make a statement explaining the reasons for the closure.
