Williams: Cairo consultations between members of the House of Representatives and High Council of State took place in a consensual atmosphere

Cairo- Meetings of the Constitutional Path Committee, which included members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, concluded in Cairo on Monday.

The Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya, Stephanie Williams, confirmed in a statement issued yesterday that the Cairo consultations took place among the members of the Committee in a consensual atmosphere, where a number of issues were discussed.

In her statement, Williams explained that the consensus that was achieved between the two councils at the beginning of this year to reactivate the electoral process came in response to the aspirations of the Libyan people, who believe that the final solution to the successive transitional stages and the resulting crises, which threaten the country’s stability, comes through elections based on a sound constitutional framework and an electoral framework with extended periods. specific electoral time.

Williams added that this round of consultations on the Libyan constitutional track is taking place within the framework of the initiative that she had launched early last month with the aim of moving forward to reach a constitutional and legislative framework for holding parliamentary and presidential elections at the earliest opportunity.
