UN Mission in Libya welcomes William’s arrival in Tripoli to lead work on Libya-Libyan dialogue tracks.

Tripoli, The UN Support Mission in Libya UNSMIL welcomed the arrival in Tripoli on Sunday of the UN Secretary General Special Advisor on Libya Stephanie Williams.

According to the statement published by UNSMIL, the Special Adviser, Williams, in close coordination with the Mission, will lead the efforts of good offices, mediation and work with Libyan, regional and international actors to follow up on the implementation of the three tracks of the Libyan-Libyan dialogue, support presidential and parliamentary elections, and work with Libyan actors to help them maintain the momentum achieved around the national elections, reflected in the unprecedented turnout and successful distribution of voter cards and the registration of a large number of presidential candidates and parliamentarians.

The mission praised the work of the National High Election Commission, which has made against all odds significant progress in technical preparations for the electoral process.

“Libyans have suffered enough as a result of conflict, fragmentation and the division of institutions, and the Libyan people deserve the opportunity to choose their leaders through the ballot box, so the mission, in close cooperation with the Special Adviser and other international partners, will continue to support the electoral process that can lead to unity, stability and the creation of legitimate institutions in the country”, the statement added.
