The US ambassador to Libya urges all Libyan leaders to calm down and reduce tension that could lead to violence.

Tripoli– The US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, urged all Libyan leaders to calm down and reduce tension that could lead to violence, and not to lose sight of the will of the majority of the Libyan people who wish to choose their leadership through free and fair elections.

This came during a meeting held by Ambassador Norland with members of the Fezzan Parliamentary Bloc “Mahdi Masoud Al-Awar”, “Abu Salah Shalaby” and “Misbah Doma” in Tunisia, according to what was published by the official page of the US embassy on Facebook.

Members of the Fezzan Parliamentary bloc briefed the US ambassador on their vision for the role of Fezzan in the future of Libya and the need for Libya to hold elections as soon as possible to ensure respect for the will of 2.8 million Libyans.

The meeting reviewed important proposals for reforming electoral laws to ensure their success, and agreed that holding elections in a timely manner represents the best path towards a secure, united and prosperous Libya.

“As Libyan institutions make decisions about the immediate future of the country’s leadership, we continue to urge all Libyan leaders to calm down, reduce tensions that could lead to violence, and not lose sight of the will of the majority of the Libyan people who wish to choose their leadership through free and fair elections,” Norland said.
