The Historic Cities Administration warns against disposing of, registering and allocating of the Benghazi Cathedral building

Benghazi-The General Administration of the Historic Cities said it was following up on what has been raised on social media, and what has been circulated by some bloggers, about transformation of the cathedral building in Benghazi into a mosque and the placing of a plaque with the name “Imam Malik Bin Anas Mosque” on it.

The Administration explained that these actions are contrary to the provisions of Law No. 3 of 1995, on the protection of monuments, museums, ancient cities and historical buildings, its executive regulations, and the decision to establish the Historic Cities Administration Authority No. (125) of 2006.

The administration said that all ministries, institutions, bodies and individuals know that all landmarks and buildings of a historical nature, cannot be disposed of, allocated, or otherwise changed in their function or construction, except by the historical cities management body, and that the administration would hold those who do so legally and criminally accountable.
