Meetings of constitutional track start in Cairo

Cairo, 12 June, 2022 (Lana) – The third round of constitutional track meetings kicked off this morning in the Egyptian capital Cairo, under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, and in the presence of the House of Representatives and High Council of State Committees regarding reaching a constitutional path, to hold parliamentary and presidential elections in Libya, whether by amending points Controversy over the draft constitution or finding a constitutional rule according to which the scheduled elections will be held. Informed sources stated that shortly after the announcement of the opening of this round, a closed session was held to continue consultations and dialogue between representatives of Parliament and the High Council of State to reach new agreements on the items and points of contention in the previous sessions.

Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libyan affairs, Stephanie Williams, confirmed during the session that (the international community supports the consultations of the Parliament and the High Council of State committees and will support any outcomes of this round).
