Jan Kupis Urges Libyan Political Dialogue Forum Members To Put Emphasis On Agreement On Constitutional Basis.

Geneva, UN Special Envoy to Libya Jan Kupis urged members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum to create the suitable atmosphere for reaching an agreement that meets the obligations they undertook in the roadmap, particularly the Dec. 24 elections, asserting that that was the mandate which the Libyan people gave to them, and re-inforced by the UN Security Council and the Berlin Conference.

In remarks addressed to the Forum, Kupis said ‘we hope we can make the most of this additional time, we are here to facilitate reaching a compromise on the constitutional basis, needed to conduct the Dec. 24 elections stipulated for by the roadmap which you approved.’

‘This is your chance to meet your obligations to the Libyan people, when you approved the roadmap, re-enforced by UN Security Council Resolution No. 2570, and the outcome of the Berlin 2 Conference, which envisages no other path for Libya’s stability and prosperity, other than the national elections on Dec. 24 , Kupis said.

He urged members to emphasize on reaching an agreement on the constitutional basis, to allow the conduct of the elections, and disclosed that members of the Forum have all agreed on a mini-team to assist the Forum on reaching a compromise by reviewing all proposals and aligning all sticking points of conflict.
