Italy resort to Libya to replace Russian energy supplies

Rome- Rome is expected to double purchases from Libya by 2024 as part of efforts to find alternatives and diversify the supply mix after the Russian-Ukrainian war. According to the “North Africa Post” electronic newspaper.

The newspaper said that the Italian Minister of Environmental Transformation, Roberto Singolani, indicated that Rome would conclude, in the coming weeks, its first deal to obtain more gas from Libya and other suppliers, to replace the Russian flows.

“A series of talks are taking place now and in the next few weeks, the first agreements are expected to be concluded,” Singolani said in an online conference.

Italy plans, according to “Singolani”, to obtain an additional 10 billion cubic meters of gas from pipelines to Algeria, Libya and Azerbaijan this year.
