House Home Affairs Committee Chairman, condemns humiliating treatment of illegal immigrants

Tripoli- Chairman of the Internal Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, Sulaiman Al-Harari stressed the need to treat illegal immigrants in Libya in a humane and legal manner that respects their humanity and preserves their dignity in accordance with what is stipulated in the relevant Libyan law, denouncing any dealings outside the law Deliberately insulting immigrants.

This came in a comment on the campaign carried out by the security services of the Ministry of Interior in the city of Benghazi to arrest illegal immigrants, and the scenes it contained that showed the humiliating and inhumane treatment of these immigrants.

In a statement to the Libyan News Agency, the head of the committee Al-Hariri referred to the incident of the Al-Hadath TV channel, based in Benghazi, on Thursday, transmitting a news report about a campaign carried out by the security services of the Ministry of Interior in Benghazi to arrest illegal immigrants, which included scenes of humiliating and inhumane treatment. For nationals of Arab and foreign countries such as Egypt, Sudan and Bangladesh.

Al-Harari considered that the violations that occurred in this campaign are considered an illegal act, and those responsible for it must be held accountable, as it is not related to the professionalism that our security services must be equipped with, and does not reflect our noble customs and morals in dealing with vulnerable groups on the lands.

In addition, it harms our relations with these countries, and may cause negative reactions from those countries towards the citizens of our country. Al-Hariri expressed his regret for allowing officials in the Ministry of Interior in Benghazi to transfer the security operation to combat illegal immigration to the media, which contradicts the professionalism that requires that security operations not be transferred to the media, calling for an immediate investigation into the incident and the accountability of those responsible. At the conclusion of his statement to Lana the Chairman of the Internal Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, Suleiman Al-Harari, expressed his hope that such actions would not be repeated, which negatively affect Libya’s image before the neighboring countries and the international community, and are exploited at this time when criticism against Libya is increasing in relation to the file Immigration, stressing that migrants must be treated according to the correct law, and as dictated by our customs, norms and values, in addition to the international conventions ratified by Libya require humane dealings with foreigners.
