NPRA Undersecretary receives UK Home Office International Operations Regional Director

Manama, Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), received Tonya Bentlan, the Regional Director for the Middle East of Home Office International Operations in the United Kingdom (UK).

Shaikh Hisham highlighted the importance ofcontuining to strengthen security cooperation and coordination.

He noted that the development strategy adopted by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Interior Minister has contributed to achieving many achievements and was reflected in the outstanding performance of the ministry’s team.

The meeting discussed means of joint cooperation and exchange of expertise with the UK in streamlining procedures for travellers and verifying their identities.

Shaikh Hisham stressed the importance of exchanging expertise in areas such as combating cross-border crime, forgery, and human trafficking; through organising specialised courses and using modern technologies to increase efficiency.

Interior Ministry Sustainable Development Team participates in SDMX

Manama, The Sustainable Development Team at the Ministry of Interior took part in the 9th Global Conference on Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX).

Shaikha Mashael bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and Organisation, affirmed that the participation in the conference came within the strategy of the Interior Ministry to develop its capabilities and expand the use of modern technology and smart solutions through exchanging expertise, developing the services provided and reinforcing community partnership mechanisms.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Sustainable Development Team at the Ministry of Interior participated in the workshops held as part of the conference.

SDMX is an event for the official statistics community around the world to exchange information on recent and upcoming developments of the SDMX initiative. The event is co-organised by the sponsors of the SDMX initiative and the Bahrain Information and e-Government Authority with the support of ESCWA and the Bank of Italy.

Foreign Minister holds call with Portuguese counterpart

Manama, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Foreign Affairs Minister, today held a phone call with João Gomes Cravinho, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal.

The two ministers discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip in light of the continuing escalation; and supporting regional and international efforts to reach a ceasefire, protect civilians, and deliver urgent aid to the Palestinian people.

They stressed the importance of intensifying dialogue to achieve just and lasting peace.

Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing Director General receives UK’s Deputy Ambassador

Manama, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, the Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, received Fiona Walker, the UK’s Deputy Ambassador to Bahrain.

Shaikh Khalid said that the Open Prisons Programme was a step forward in the progress of protecting human rights Bahrain, supported by the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which is aimed at developing the criminal justice system and focusing on the rehabilitation of prisoners .

He added that the Interior Ministry is keen on adopting international standards in alternative sentencing and open prisons programmes, under the directives of Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, the Interior Minister.

Shaikh Khalif explained the Open Prisons Programme’s objectives and briefed the UK’s Deputy Ambassador on the rehabilitation and training programmes and services provided to beneficiaries, and the set up of the the open prisons buildings.

The two parties also discussed means of cooperation and coordination and continuing joint training and exchange of expertise.

HH Khalid bin Hamad attends conclusion of Junior Fencing World Cup

Manama, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee affirmed that Bahrain’s hosting of the World Cup of Fencing for Juniors in the individual and team category (women’s saber weapon), reflects Bahrain’s status as a destination for major sporting events.

HH Shaikh Khalid said this during the conclusion of the Junior Fencing World Cup Championship competitions on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at the Isa bin Rashid Volleyball Hall in the Isa Town Sports City.

Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, General Sports Authority’s CEO; Faris Mustafa Al Kooheji, Secretary General of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC); Shaikh Ibrahim bin Salman Al Khalifa, President of the Bahraini Fencing Federation, were present.

HH Shaikh Khalid awarded the winning teams.

Uzbekistan, won the team first place, the Bulgaria team came second and the Kazakhstan team third.

Interior Ministry participates in 7th Interpol meeting

Manama, Major-General Dr Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Deputy Chief of Public Security led the Ministry of Interior delegation at the seventh International Criminal Police Organiasation (Interpol) meeting of Police Chiefs in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

The Deputy Chief of Public Security delivered a speech in which he asserted the importance of international cooperation in combating crime and security challenges, which requires the development of legislation and regulations.

He highlighted the efforts of the Interior Ministry in cooperating with the counterpart security entities in the region.

He expressed thanks to the Interpol for their efforts in connecting member states through its advanced crime databases which contribute to higher efficiency in countering crime.
