Britain: Agreeing to hold elections in which everyone participates is the only solution to the legitimacy crisis in Libya

Tripoli – Britain has confirmed that there is no military solution to the ongoing crisis regarding legitimacy in Libya, stressing that it is absolutely necessary for all Libyan parties to communicate with the United Nations to agree on a path towards holding free, fair and representative elections for all, with the support of All international actors.

This came in a statement issued by the Minister for North Africa at the British Foreign and International Development Department, Lord Tariq Ahmed, yesterday evening, Sunday, regarding the events that took place in the capital, Tripoli, on Friday and Saturday, which resulted in a number of dead and wounded.

The British diplomat expressed his country’s condemnation of the violence that took place in the capital, Tripoli, on Saturday, calling on all parties to put the wishes of the Libyan people ahead of their narrow personal interests.

Tariq Ahmed concluded his statement by saying that “the United Kingdom stands ready to work with the Libyans, the United Nations and international partners to bring lasting peace and stability to Libya and bring prosperity to its people.”
