First GCC Youth Games to launch on Tuesday


Dubai, The first batch of the administrative delegation of Bahrain arrived yesterday in the United Arab Emirates to participate in the first GCC Youth Games scheduled to be held from April 16 to May 2.

Bahrain is participating with a large delegation consisting of 196 male and female athletes, in addition to the technical and administrative staff. The kingdom will participate in 17 sports: swimming, taekwondo, judo, bicycles, badminton, chess, martial arts, fencing, table tennis, volleyball, football, handball, jiu-jitsu, triathlon, martial arts for people of determination, and bowling.

The inaugural edition of the GCC Youth Games has the total of 3,500 young male and female athletes participating from across the GCC countries, competing in 26 different individual and team sports, under the slogan ‘Our Gulf is One… Our Youth is Promising.’

The Organising Committee of the First GCC Youth Games affirmed the readiness of all sports facilities to host the competitions, and the provision of all requirements a
nd equipment in the five host cities, namely Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, and Fujairah, in coordination with the UAE National Olympic Committee, General Sports Authority and Sports Councils.

The technical committee approved the schedule of football matches that will be held with the participation of the teams of the UAE, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.

They also approved the schedule of matches for volleyball, which is held with the participation of the teams of the UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Meanwhile, the handball competitions will witness the participation of all GCC countries’ teams.

BREEF Hosts Inaugural National Arabian Horse Judging Course


Manama, The Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF) has announced organising the first edition of the National Arabian Horse Judging Course scheduled from April 21 to 23. The course aims to qualify and prepare national judges for Arabian horse beauty competitions.

The initiative seeks to cultivate a new generation of qualified personnel by providing them with a comprehensive understanding of judging criteria and practical experience. Graduates of the course will be accredited on the lists of national judges in their respective countries, enabling them to fulfill their roles effectively.

The course will be conducted by a select group of experienced judges endorsed by the European Conference of Arab Horse Organisations (ECAHO), including Claudia Darius from Germany and Anna Stojanowska from Poland.

BREEF specified that applicants for the course must possess a high school diploma or be enrolled in high school, with proficiency in the English language required.

A total of 22 participants from four countries will partake in the course, with Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Jordan represented by 5, 14, 2, and 1 participant(s) respectively.

Royal Navy Assists 118 Would-be Irregular Migrants in Tarfaya

Rabat – A Royal Navy combat unit intercepted, on Sunday, two boats located 22 km and 19 km southwest of Tarfaya carrying a total of 118 irregular migrants, which included 9 women and 3 minors.

According to a press release from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, the migrants, originating from sub-Saharan and Asian countries, were attempting to reach the Canary Islands.

Upon interception, the individuals were provided with necessary medical treatment on board the naval vessel. Subsequently, they were transferred to the Royal Gendarmerie for standard administrative procedures, said the same source.

Municipalities Minister inspects municipal preparations for rainfall accumulations


Manama, Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister, visited and inspected a number of areas to review the development of rainwater drainage networks and other solutions for rainfall accumulation across the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The inspection visits included Muharraq Municipality and Capital Municipality.

The minister said that the Capital Municipality and municipal councils have increased their preparations to deal with rainwater accumulations, in anticipation of weather forecasts indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall over the coming two days.

The mechanisms used to deal with rainfall were reviewed, as well as cleaning roads promptly after suction operations are completed to ensure the accessibility of roads.

Al Mubarak said that the ministry had developed an integrated plan in the event of heavy rainfall. An emergency team and a joint operations room have been set up to carry out necessary procedures to drain rainwater pools in coordination with the Ministry of Work
s, Civil Defense and municipal councils.

He urged citizens, residents and visitors to report any emergency regarding rainwater accumulation via the municipal hotline 80008188.
