Al-Koni praises the role of local mayors in the national reconciliation project.

The representative of the Presidential Council, “Musa Al-Koni,” praised the role played by the local mayors for being the first point of contact with citizens.

This came during his meeting today with representatives of the mayors of Libya, who reviewed before him the results of their forum that was held during the past two days in Tripoli with the participation of 1,300 local mayors from all regions of Libya, and their vision in establishing an association that would be the mouthpiece and defend their rights, and contribute to the success of the national reconciliation project that was launched by the Presidential Council.

Al-Koni also expressed his confidence that local mayors will have a prominent role in the national reconciliation project, as they are the largest social base closest to citizens, stressing the support of the Presidential Council for all their efforts to serve the citizen.

The deputy reviewed his vision calling for the return of the governorate system, which ensures that they obtain their rights, by handing over their budgets to manage their projects, through model governorates in accordance with the standards in force in the countries of the world, in order for the central government to devote itself to performing its role in pursuing foreign policy and state affairs, and assigning a legal person at the head of each governorate, from outside it, grants them full powers to manage its affairs.

The Japanese Chargé d’Affairs in Libya discusses with Batili the developments in the political situation in Libya.

The Japanese Chargé d’Affaires to Libya, “Masaki Amadera,” expressed his country’s support for the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to activate the electoral process this year and for the United Nations humanitarian work in Libya.

This came during his meeting with the UN envoy to Libya, “Abdullah Batili” yesterday, Sunday, according to what “Batili” published on his Twitter account.

Batili said in his tweet that during the meeting, the latest political developments were discussed.

Bahrain’s efforts to promote alternatives sanctions hailed

Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa received two officials from the American Bar Association.

He welcomed the guests, highlighting that the alternative sanctions and the open prisons are part of the reform project of Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.

It is also part of the dedication of the Government led by His Royal Highness, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to enhance the implementation of the Alternative Sanctions and Measures Law and the open prisons programme.

He added that the Interior Ministry, per the instructions of Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, has been dedicated to implementing the best international standards to promote the criminal justice system and human rights.

The meeting reviewed the General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing to enforce the law and the rehabilitation and training programmes provided to beneficiaries. Both sides discussed cooperation and coordination in exchanging expertise and training programmes.

The two officials hailed the efforts of the directorate to increase the law’s beneficiaries.

UAE, Qatar announce restoration of diplomatic representation

UAE and Qatar announced the restoration of diplomatic representation between the two countries by resuming the work at the Emirati Embassy in Doha, and at the Qatari Embassy in Abu Dhabi and its consulate in Dubai as of June 19.

The two sides underlined that this step embodies the will of both leaderships to achieve the aspirations of both countries in the consolidation of the march joint Arab action, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

National committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons holds meeting

The National Committee for Combatting Trafficking in Persons held its first meeting after its restructuring, chaired by Nouf Abdulrahman Jamsheer, the LMRA Chief Executive Officer.

Jamsheer congratulated His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on Bahrain’s achievement of the “Tier 1” status in the US State Department’s report on the classification of countries in the field of combating trafficking in persons for the sixth consecutive year.

She noted that this achievement reflects the Kingdom’s significant and sustainable efforts to maintain a stable and fair work environment.

Jamsheer added that Bahrain’s pioneering regional role in the field of combating trafficking in persons reflects its commitment to preserving the rights of all work parties.

The meeting reviewed current policies aimed at combating trafficking in persons in the Kingdom and the most prominent points mentioned in the report of the US Department of State, to build on and strengthen, combatting trafficking in persons on all levels.

Customs Affairs holds a graduation ceremony

Director-General of General Resources and Information Systems of Customs Affairs Shaikh Turki bin Duaj Al Khalifa attended a graduation ceremony for the Qarar (decision) programme of the Customs Training Institute in cooperation with the University of Bahrain.

The programme aimed to enhance the leadership skills of decision-makers in Customs Affairs. Deputy Health of Community Services of the University of Bahrain, Dr Mohammed Al Ansari, attended.

Director-General praised the instructions of Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa to promote human resources development and follow-up of the President of Customs, Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

He said that the programme was designed to meet work requirements. He thanked the University of Bahrain, the United Nations Media Centre for Gulf Countries and the organisers for their efforts. At the end of the ceremony, he handed the certificates to the graduates and wished them all the best.
