Meeting to discuss ongoing preparations for third conference on renewable energy

A meeting chaired by the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Muhammad Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Supervisory Committee and Chairman of the Third National Renewable Energy Conference and Exhibition 2023, discussed the ongoing preparations for the conference.

The meeting also discussed ideas and visions for presenting this great national event, reflecting the Republic of Yemen’s interest in advancing the energy sector, especially from clean energy sources to meet the needs of the electricity sector and climate change.

At the meeting, the Minister of Electricity expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Chairman of the Higher Supervisory Committee of the Third National Renewable Energy Conference and Exhibition 2023, Dr. Rashid Abu Lahoum, for his sponsorship and support for the conference and exhibition.

The State of Qatar welcomed the agreement of the members of the Libyan 6 + 6 committee on electoral laws, describing this step as an important step towards achieving a political agreement, leading to the presidential and parliamentary elections.

In a statement today, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Qatar’s appreciation to the Kingdom of Morocco for its efforts in hosting the talks and its support for dialogue and consensus between the Libyan parties. It also expressed Qatar’s support for the efforts of the United Nations Mission in Libya to accomplish its tasks.

The ministry renewed its country’s full support for the Libyan political process, and the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections on time for the stability of Libya and the realization of the aspirations of its brotherly people for development and prosperity.

Libya chairs the meeting of the Committee on Social, Educational, and Cultural Affairs, Women, and Youth in the Arab Parliament.

Member of the House of Representatives (HoR), Ahlam Al-Lafi, chaired the meeting of the Social, Educational, Cultural, Women, and Youth Affairs Committee of the Arab Parliament, which was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in the presence of the President of the Arab Parliament.

According to the spokesman of the HoR, Abdullah Belihaq, the committee’s agenda included approving the minutes of the previous committee meeting, approving the draft Arab guiding law to combat domestic violence, and approving the report on the social situation in the Arab world for the past year.

During the meeting, the committee’s memorandum regarding the opinion on the need to prepare an Arab guiding law to combat the phenomenon of bullying was also reviewed.

The meeting also reviewed the committee’s agenda and approved the committee’s activity report during the current session, in addition to discussing developments in arranging a seminar on “Protecting societal values in the Arab world and establishing a fund to support the Arabic language.”

The Arab Parliament renews its support for Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, “Adel bin Abd al-Rahman al-Asoumi,” reaffirmed the parliament’s position in support of the unity of Libya, preserving its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and non-interference in its internal affairs.

This came during his meeting with Ambassador “Abdul Muttalib Idris Thabet,” Libya’s permanent representative to the League of Arab States and member of the House of Representatives and member of the Arab Parliament, “Hassan Al-Barghouti,” according to what was published by the Libyan delegation on its official Facebook page.

Al-Assoumi expressed his confidence in the Libyans’ upholding the high interest of the country in order to achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, peace, stability and development.

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament stressed the need for Libyan national consensus on holding the Libyan presidential and legislative elections, for their decisive role in achieving security, stability and development in the Libyan state.

For his part, Libya’s delegate to the League of Arab States praised the efforts of the Arab Parliament headed by “Al-Asoumi” to support Libya in all Arab and international forums in which the Arab Parliament participates, expressing his hope for more cooperation and coordination between the Arab Parliament and Libya during the next stage.

Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs: Libyans want to elect their leaders and restore legitimacy to their institutions.

The Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, said that Libyans want to elect their leaders, restore legitimacy to their institutions, and end the endless transitional stages.

This came during her remark at a high-level session held by the UN Secretary Council last Thursday to discuss cooperation between the UN and the League of Arab States, according to the UN website.

DiCarlo stressed that the international community, in this context, needs to remain “united” in the coming weeks and months to hold elections in Libya by the end of 2023.

DiCarlo welcomed the decision of the Arab Summit on the developments in Libya, considering that this is evidence of the participation of the Arab League in resolving the issue, especially as it is a member of the Libyan Quartet alongside the UN.

In particular, DiCarlo commended the League’s “expression of support for the United Nations’ ongoing efforts to find a political solution for Libya.”

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Arab League discussed the need for the international community to move to provide support to the Libyan people in a manner that preserves Libya’s unity, sovereignty, security, and stability, calling on the Libyan parties to overcome obstacles that prevent the holding of electoral entitlements and stressing the League’s continuation to support the efforts of the UN in Libya, including making progress in the political process, economic and security reforms, and respect for international humanitarian law.

In a report, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for the continued participation of the Quartet on Libya, consisting of the European Union, the African Union, the League of Arab States, and the UN, within the framework of the Berlin process and the Libyan political dialogue facilitated by the UN.

The Italian Foreign Ministry announced that Ambassador Gianluca Alberini began his duties as ambassador in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, on Friday, according to the Italian News Agency “Nova”.

According to Nova, Alberini will assume the position of Italian ambassador to Libya and lead its diplomatic mission in Tripoli to succeed the former ambassador, Giuseppe Buccino, who left his post a few days ago after the end of his tenure in Libya.

“Today I bagin my mandate as Ambassador of Italy in Libya. I will work with enthusiasm and determination to further strengthen the deep relations of friendship and cooperation binding Italy and Libya and to foster peace and prosperity in this country.” Alberini said in a tweet.
