Interior Minister meets with US Secretary of Homeland Security

During his visit to the United States, Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa met with the US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the USA, Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa and the Interior Minister’s accompanying delegation attended.

The Secretary of Homeland Security hailed the visit of the Interior Minister, lauding his role in reinforcing security cooperation and coordination between the two sides. He highlighted the importance of previously-signed agreements and memoranda of understanding between the Department of Homeland Security and Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior that have strengthened cooperation to achieve joint strategic and security goals.

Meanwhile, the Interior Minister spotlighted the distinguished ties between Bahrain and the United States and their mutual dedication to expanding their partnership to serve the interests of both countries. He hailed the fruitful cooperation and exchange of expertise in advancing security, law enforcement and criminal justice through their strategic partnership and dedication to jointly tackle security challenges.

He highlighted various projects and initiatives of the Interior Ministry, noting the necessity of securing the future and expanding partnerships to protect the youth from the current challenges, including rapid technological advancement and risks associated with maintaining a significant online presence through forums and video games.

He hailed the support of the United States for Bahrain joining the Global Entry programme after activating the “Trusted Traveler” agreement signed between the two countries in January 2021. He highlighted that the programme is operated efficiently, and many Bahrainis have benefited from it after the issuance of pre-approved travel permission was sped up through the comprehensive development of the visa system between the two countries.

He emphasized security cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including cybersecurity, one of the most critical global challenges that must be addressed collectively.

He said the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides last year reinforced constructive cooperation between Bahrain’s National Cyber Security Centre and the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. He added that technological development requires further vigilance, proactive measures, and collaborative partnerships to build capabilities, exchange experiences, and adopt best practices.

The meeting reviewed security coordination, how to strengthen capabilities and open new opportunities for bilateral cooperation. Cooperation and the exchange of experiences in countering drones through training courses to increase efficiency and readiness were also spotlighted. Additionally, several regional and international issues and developments were discussed to maintain security and develop joint efforts to confront current security challenges.

During the meeting, the Interior Minister and the Secretary of Homeland Security signed a memorandum of understanding between the Interior Ministry and the Department of Homeland Security to cooperate in preventing and combating trafficking in persons. The MoU promotes wide-ranging collaboration, including the exchange of information to detect, investigate and prosecute cases of trafficking in persons, the provision of protection and assistance to victims, as well as technical cooperation and preventive measures such as training and education programmes, seminars and workshops related to addressing trafficking in persons.

The Interior Minister, assured the Secretary of serious and active cooperation to implement the memo, highlighting his appreciation for the US Department of State designating Bahrain as a Tier 1 country in tackling trafficking in persons since 2018. He affirmed the dedication of Bahrain to build on this achievement and its determination to cooperate with regional and international partners in fighting human trafficking.

HM King receives HM Sultan of Brunei

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa received at Gudaibiya Palace today Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen.

The kingdom’s honorable guest received an official welcome on arrival at Gudaibiya Palace. Then, HM the King held a meeting with HM Sultan of Brunei, in the presence of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Personal Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, National Security Advisor, and HRH Prince Abdul Mateen.

They reviewed relations of cooperation and friendship between both countries and their steady development in various areas. They also discussed the main regional and international developments of common concern. Then, HM the King and HM Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei exchanged commemorative gifts.

After that, HM the King held an official meeting with HM Sultan of Brunei, in the presence of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Shura Council Chairman, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and members of the Bahraini and Bruneian delegations.

HM the King welcomed the kingdom’s honorable guest, expressing keenness his visit would further consolidate bilateral relations and cooperation.

HM Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei expressed thanks and appreciation to HM the King for the gracious welcome and hospitality.

The two leaders reviewed solid relations and ways of bolstering them mainly in various fields to achieve common goals and interests. They also underlined resolve to continue the efforts to further boost cooperation and avail of the investment opportunities in both countries.

HM the King praised the achievements made in Brunei Darussalam, under the leadership of HM Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, which enhanced its standing and role in the Asian continent. He also lauded Brunei’s prominent contributions to serving Islamic issues.

HM Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei commended the efforts of HM the King to further strengthen bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation, stressing keenness on consolidating historical relations with the Kingdom of Bahrain to serve common interests.

The following memoranda of understanding were signed in the presence of HM the King and HM Sultan of Brunei:

1- A memorandum of understanding between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries on political consultation and cooperation. It was signed by Minister of Finance and National Economy, Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and Erywan Pehin Yusof, the Minister of Foreign Affairs II.

2- A memorandum of understanding between the Bahraini government and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on cooperation regarding women’s affairs. It was signed by Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) Hala Mohammed Jaber Al Ansari and Nazmi Mohamad, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

3- A memorandum of understanding between the Bahraini government and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on cooperation in the media field. It was signed by Information Minister Dr. Ramzan bin Abdullah Al-Noaimi and Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah, the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II.

4- A memorandum of understanding between the Bahraini government and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on cultural cooperation. It was signed by Information Minister Dr. Ramzan bin Abdullah Al-Noaimi and Nazmi Mohamad, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

5- A memorandum of understanding between the Bahraini government and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on cooperation in the educational field. It was signed by Education Minister Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma’a and Dr. Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, the Minister of Education.

6- A certificate granting Brunei Darussalam the right of sovereignty over the information of its subscribers in cloud computing centers located in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It was signed by Minister of Finance and National Economy Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah, the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II.

HM the King and HM Sultan of Brunei hailed the signing of the memos which will further develop bilateral cooperation.

HM the King held a lunch banquet in honor of HM Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei and his accompanying delegation.
