GNU Foreign Minister reviews with the German Ambassador latest developments in Libya

Tripoli-GNU Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Najla Al-Mangoush received on Thursday, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli, German Ambassador to Libya Mikhail Onmakht.

According to the Foreign Ministry the meeting focused on ways to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the two friendly countries and activate economic agreements between Libya and the Federal Republic of Germany.

Latest developments in the political situation in Libya were discussed at the meeting as well as the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of National Unity to stabilize the country, and to encourage the German role in supporting Libya’s parliamentary and presidential elections.

For his part, the German Ambassador stressed that the best solution to get out of the crisis is dialogue and political agreement to reach elections to promote stability in Libya.

132 African asylum-seekers evacuated from Libya to Rwanda: UN refugee agency

TRIPOLI— The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that it evacuated 132 vulnerable asylum-seekers from Libya to Rwanda.

“UNHCR evacuated a group of 132 vulnerable asylum seekers, including young children and babies, out of Libya to safety in Rwanda,” UNHCR Libya tweeted.

The asylum-seekers, who are from different African countries, had been living in urban areas of the capital Tripoli and include survivors of violence and torture and women and girls at risk, said UNHCR in a statement.

Expressing gratitude to Libyan authorities for facilitating the evacuation, UNHCR Acting Chief of Mission in Libya Djamal Zamoum said “these vital flights provide hope and safety for some of the most vulnerable refugees and asylum-seekers in Libya.”

Zamoum urged other countries to “provide more pathways or resettlement opportunities to help others find safety out of Libya.”

Since 2017, a total of 8,296 vulnerable refugees and asylum-seekers have been evacuated out of Libya to safety, according to the UN relief agency.

Many illegal migrants, mostly Africans, choose to cross the Mediterranean Sea to European shores from Libya.

Al-Dabaiba follows up with Acting Minister of Health steps to organize medical treatment home and abroad

Tripoli- Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba held a meeting, Wednesday, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health in charge, Ramadan Boujnah, in the presence of the Director of the Tripoli University Center, head of medical supply, and the director of Department of Clinical Affairs and Pharmacy .

The meeting, which was held at the Cabinet Office in Tripoli, was devoted to following up on steps taken by the Ministry of Health regarding the organization of the treatment at home and abroad, and the ministry’s readiness to implement the public tender, which has not been implemented since 2009.

In a speech, the Prime Minister said, “What is happening in the treatment file is a situation that cannot be tolerated. If sub- and central medical committees are not formed and sick cases are identified according to specific medical standards, all work is illegal,”.

With regard to the general tender of the Ministry of Health, the Prime Minister issued instructions to follow up with the Audit Bureau, in order to complete the procedures, review the tender and start.

Al-Dabaiba Pays Tribute to former Mayor of Tobruk Municipality

Tripoli- Head of National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba, mourned the former mayor of Tobruk municipality, Faraj Hassan al-Mabri al-Obeidi, who passed away, Wednesday, offering his condolences to the Obaidat tribe and all social components in the eastern region.

Al-Dabaiba said in a tweet posted on his Twitter account, Sheikh Faraj Hassan Al-Mabri Al-Marimi Al-Obaidi left us today, and with his death we lose a man of reason, and patriotic voice whose wisdom we need today. My sincere condolences to ourselves and all social components of Cyrenaica that witnessed the deceased’s patriotism and wisdom.”

Ambassador Norland: Elections in Libya solution to current political impasse

Tripoli, 2 June , 2022 (Lana) – US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, stressed that the way out of the current political impasse in Libya lies in organizing elections as soon as possible.

Ambassador Norland said in an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper published Thursday that “the elections could take place sooner than many think.”

The US Special Envoy for Libya issued a stern warning to those obstructing the peace process in Libya, saying that those whose “actions undermine peace, security, and stability in Libya risk sanctions and isolation,” stressing that “the United States believes that the Libyans are ultimately responsible for finding a solution to the political impasse.” and complete the phase of political transition in their homeland.
