Abul Gheit calls on Libyan parties to uphold the best interests of the country.

Cairo, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit called on various Libyan parties to uphold the country’s higher interests above any narrow calculations and interests, pointing to the dangerous juncture Libya is going through, and which compels all to show solidarity and cooperation to achieve electoral entitlement as soon as possible, in fulfillment of the will of the Libyan people and maintaining the unity and sovereignty of the country.

In a statement today, Abul Gheit urged the parties concerned to adopt dialogue as the only way to resolve the dispute, and to shun of violence, and use of arms, explaining that maintaining the stability of the situation is necessary to enable Libyans to express their will freely through the electoral process.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League stressed importance of having a national consensus on the legal and procedural rules of the elections, thereby respecting their results and adhering to them. ” “The international will, as has been expressed in more than one forum in recent months, underscores the centrality of holding presidential and parliamentary elections and ending the foreign military presence in all its forms, as a necessity for Libya’s stability away from the effects of the recent civil war,” he said.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) appeals to all Libyan parties to put interests of their country first.

Riyadh, The Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Nayef Al-Hajarf has affirmed GCC countries’ keenness to preserving Libya’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and to stop all interference in its internal affairs.

Al-Hajarf expressed regret that Libya’s presidential and parliamentary elections were not held on set time on Friday, stressing that they were a constitutional entitlement and an international demand, to pave the way for a better future for the Libyan people, their security and stability. The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) called on all Libyan parties to prevail over national interests and work for security and stability in Libya.

He also stressed the need for all foreign troops and mercenaries to leave Libya and for support for counter-terrorism efforts, according to the official Saudi news agency SPA.

Al-Hajarf stressed the council’s support for UN efforts to reach a political solution to achieve security and stability in Libya and the region.
