Al-Mnifi and Jan Kubis discuss the obstacles facing the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, and work to build confidence between all parties.

Tripoli, The President of the Presidential Council, “Mohamed Al-Mnifi,” met this morning, Wednesday, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Mr. “Jan Kubis”, to discuss the latest political developments in Libya.

Sources of the Presidential Council stated that the meeting dealt with a review of the results of the Paris Conference on Libya, and ways to establish a common ground for cooperation towards the Libyan file, with the international community.

The meeting also discussed the obstacles facing the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, and work to build confidence among all parties, before the upcoming Security Council meeting on Libya.

During the meeting, the President of the Presidential Council affirmed his full keenness to gather the Libyan parties and heal the rift, to prepare for holding elections and accept their results, and to continue work on the national reconciliation project.

For his part, the UN envoy confirmed that the presence of Al-Mnifi as commander-in-chief of the Libyan army, with members of the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee, was a strong message to the international community, to work seriously during the last period, and that Libya is capable of overcoming its ordeal, and bringing it safety to the mainland.

US Ambassador to Libya: I and al-Koni discussed; how can the international community better support the efforts of Libyans working for the elections on December 24th.

Tripoli, A meeting of the Vice President of the Presidential Council, “Musa al-Koni”, today, Wednesday, was held in the capital, Tripoli, with the American ambassador and its special envoy to Libya, “Richard Norland.”

Ambassador Norland said in a tweet posted by the US embassy on its Twitter account after the meeting (the vice president of the presidential council al-Koni and I discussed how the international community can better support the efforts of Libyans working for the elections on December 24.

The US ambassador added, “The United States supports a real campaign season that allows Libyans to learn about important candidates and issues.”
