Washington The United States and Egypt have underscored importance of holding Libyan elections on December 24.

The final statement issued at the end of the strategic dialogue between the two countries in Washington also confirmed their support for the Joint Military Commission’s action plan, which demands that all foreign forces, fighters and mercenaries leave the country.

The statement also stressed that America and Egypt were firmly committed to the national security of the two countries and the stability of the Middle East. Egypt praised American role in Egypt’s economic development, supply of defense equipment and the joint cooperation to strengthen Egypt’s defense capabilities.

Tripoli, A number of commanders and the force of Burkan al-Ghadhab Operation (Volcano of Rage) stressed the importance of holding the presidential and parliamentary elections on their scheduled date, December 24, and not allowing them to be obstructed or empty of their content, at the same time rejecting the election laws, considering those who issued them (in reference to the House of Representatives) describing them as the obstructionists of the elections.

They made it clear in a statement issued in Tripoli, that adhering to the elections must be on a constitutional basis as stipulated in the road map, stressing the need to deal with and implement them as an integrated package and not in a selective manner as stipulated in Security Council resolutions in particular.

The statement also stressed that presidential elections without a constitution or constitutional basis are a dictatorship project, regardless of their results. The statement announced their rejection of the current election laws for violating the Constitutional Declaration and the Political Agreement, and legally challenged them and not based on any political consensus, calling on the High Elections Commission to adhere to impartiality and to make its decisions in accordance with the Constitutional Declaration and Political Agreement.

The statement held the head of the High National Elections Commission and members of the House of Representatives, and what it described as accomplices supported internally and externally, with full responsibility for the serious consequences that may completely undermine the positive steps that have been achieved in support of stability, confidence-building and alleviation of the polarization among Libyans.

Tripoli, Attorney General Al-Siddiq Al-Sour met, Tuesday, with the Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Finance, the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and the Dean of the University of Tripoli, the Syndicate General of university faculty members, and directors of the financial departments of the Ministries of Higher Education and Finance. and University of Tripoli.

The Attorney General praised the efforts of university faculty members over the past years, despite the circumstances the country is going through. He stressed that he is following up the strike of university faculty members to protest against the Ministry of Finance’s failure to pay their financial dues in accordance with the decision issued by the Presidential Council.

Valletta, Minister of Interior “Khaled Mazen” met today, Wednesday, his Maltese counterpart, “Byron Camilleri” in the Maltese capital Valletta.

The meeting was attended by Adviser to the Maltese Minister of Interior “Ryan Spaniol”, Director of Intelligence “Joe Poggia” and Vice-President of the Army “Mark Malia” and from the Libyan side, Director of the Minister’s Office, Brigadier General Noureddine Abu Geraidah, Dr. Balnour, head of the Libyan mission in Malta, and the Libyan consul.

The media office of the Ministry of Interior said that this visit comes as a continuation of the talks between the two sides that took place in Tripoli last April.

It added, that the two sides stressed, during the meeting, the importance of joint security cooperation between the two countries and its development to serve common interests.

It was agreed to form a joint committee from both sides to develop the appropriate executive mechanisms to define specialized training courses for coastal security personnel in the areas of diving, rescue and boat maintenance, activating the Operations Coordination Center, and enabling representatives of the two ministries to carry out their duties in a way that ensures unification of efforts in combating illegal immigration and smuggling across the sea and securing direct contact to exchange information, in addition to working to expedite the establishment of a private school for demining in Tripoli.
