During his meeting with Lafi, the Ugandan President, expressed his hope for the success of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

Kampala, The Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, received yesterday, Thursday, in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, Vice-President of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, and his accompanying delegation. They discussed the latest developments in the situation in Libya, and discussed ways of joint cooperation in Libya in many issues of interest to both countries.

During this meeting, he reviewed the developments of the political scene in Libya, the efforts of the executive authorities produced by the Political Dialogue Forum, and the road map, represented by the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity, in unifying state institutions, launching the comprehensive national reconciliation project, and continuing work to hold presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously on time, scheduled at the end of next month.

Al-Lafi indicated the amount of work carried out by the High National Elections Commission, opening voter registration, preparing technical materials and logistical preparation, in order to organize free and fair elections, to insure its safety and acceptance of its results by all.

Al-Lafi praised the positions of the Republic of Uganda towards the Libyan issue, through its continuous support for the peaceful path to reach a political solution, so that Libya enjoys stability and peace, as well as preserving Libyan investments and assets in Uganda.

Al-Lafi called on President Museveni to visit Libya, to strengthen the joint and historical relations that unite the two countries.

For his part, the Ugandan president expressed his hope for the success of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, and for Libya to cross this transitional phase, stressing that the participation of all Libyans, without exclusion or marginalization of anyone, in this national entitlement is very important, and it is enough to enhance national reconciliation efforts in the country. He added that the solution in Libya is in the hands of the Libyans themselves, without the need for foreign intervention, as they are able to overcome their differences, open a new page to build Libya, and restore stability and peace to it.

President Museveni renewed his support and standing with Libya and the Libyan people, in various continental and international arenas, so that Libya regains its position among the peoples of the continent, stressing his response to the resumption of the Ugandan embassy in Tripoli in the coming days.

During the meeting, they discussed supporting Libya’s efforts to obtain a seat in the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, as well as the return of the General Secretariat of the Community of Sahel and Saharan States to its permanent headquarters in the capital, Tripoli, in addition to discussing many files related to joint relations in various political fields, commercial and investments.

The Vice President of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, and his accompanying delegation had arrived in Uganda on Wednesday evening, on a working visit during which he met a number of Ugandan officials, led by President Yoweri Museveni.

Reuters news agency: The US Vice President will fly next week to Paris, loaded with American support for the upcoming elections.

Tripoli, Reuters news agency quoted senior US administration officials as saying that US Vice President Camilla Harris will participate in the Paris conference on Libya next week.

Reuters indicated that Harris will express, through the Paris conference next week, her country’s support for Libya to take steps towards holding general elections next December.

One of the officials told the agency: “We want to show our support for the Libyan people during this conference as it heads towards national elections, and the necessity of the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries from the country.”

It is noteworthy that the French capital, Paris, will host on the 12th of this month an international conference on Libya in cooperation with the United Nations, Germany and Italy, attended by about 20 world leaders. It will be allocated to support the elections scheduled in Libya before the end of this year.
