Through virtual technology, the House of Representatives and the UN mission are discussing a number of issues related to the Libyan issue.

Tobruk, The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, Youssef Al-Aqouri, discussed during a virtual meeting held Thursday with the Assistant Secretary-General and Coordinator of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Residen Zeninga, the requirements for the success of the electoral process scheduled for late next month and the ongoing preparations for this matter

The official website of the Council quoted Al-Aqouri as saying that “the success of the elections requires commitment to the outcomes of the Geneva Conference, which is the dismantling of armed groups, the removal of foreign forces and mercenaries and the reconciliation file, in addition to solving the problem of forgery of national numbers,” noting that “without resolving these issues, the matter will be a rotation of the issue without effective solutions to the crisis.”

The Speaker of the House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Council added that the House of Representatives “performed the entitlement entrusted to it and adopted the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections Law” within the framework of its keenness to hold the elections on time, warning against “the country falling into a political vacuum if its results are not accepted,” stressing as well that “The council is not committed to staying in power.”

For his part, the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee expressed his remarks on the issue of electing the head of state “based on the country considering one electoral district,” stressing the importance of providing guarantees for the acceptance of the election results and “unifying the military institution as a safety valve for the country and a guarantee of its unity and stability,” because this step “will have a great positive effect on the success of the elections,” noting that “without guaranteeing that, the country may have entered into a dangerous conflict.”

They also discussed, Al-Aqouri and the UN official, to work on the file of unification of institutions, reconciliation and other aspects related to the stability of Libya, most notably the exit of foreign forces.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue coordination, exchange views and benefit from the mission’s experiences, while Al-Aqouri, for his part, reiterated the parliament’s keenness to make the work of the UN mission in Libya a success.

America commends the effort of the “5 + 5” joint military committee to expel mercenaries.

Tripoli, The US embassy in Libya praised what it called (the continuous progress of the Joint Military Committee 5 + 5 regarding the plan to deport mercenaries and foreign fighters from the country).

On its Twitter account, the embassy described, through the US ambassador and its special envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, the meetings of the “5 + 5” joint military committee, which was held in Cairo, as important, saying that these consultations and agreements with neighboring countries would implement the ceasefire agreement in a complete effective manner, he said.

Ambassador Norland wished the Joint Military Commission success in its ongoing regional discussions and thanked the United Nations Support Mission in facilitating this process.

Libya will not attend the Paris conference if the Israelis are invited to it.

Tripoli, An official in the National Unity Government announced that Libya will not attend the conference sponsored by French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss the Libyan crisis in any capacity if it is proven that an invitation has been sent to the Israeli entity to attend.

The spokesman for the Government of National Unity, “Mohamed Hammouda”, in statements published on the social network today, that the position of the Government of National Unity and all Libyans is consistent with regard to the Palestinian issue, explaining that it is not yet certain whether the Israeli occupation is on the list of invitees.

Malta sets mechanisms to lift freezing of Libyan funds in Valletta and Sata banks.

Valletta, The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Consular Affairs “Murad Hamima” confirmed that the Maltese government had responded with a great deal to the Government of National Unity regarding the mechanisms for lifting the freezing of Libyan citizens’ funds and allowing them to transfer their frozen funds to Maltese banks, and that Maltese officials confirmed that their country has no intention or desire to target the Libyans’ money in any way, and that the consulate will publish the mechanisms required for the affected citizens to be able to recover their money.

The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs for Consular Affairs explained in press statements today that (the accounts of Libyan citizens frozen in Malta are concentrated in the “Valletta” and “Sata” banks, and we have completed the inventory of the closed accounts in Valletta Bank, numbering 1,800 accounts, and “Sata Bank” accounts are still under liquidation and monitoring).
