CGTN: GAUC to hold global youth summit on a zero carbon future

BEIJING, Aug. 24, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — 2021 is a crucial year for advancing climate action. To mobilize, showcase, and maximize young people’s strength in tackling climate change, the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC) announces the ClimateX Summit – a global initiative led by GAUC to engage youth around the world.

GAUC to hold global youth summit on a zero carbon future

ClimateX aims to help move the world towards a Net-Zero Carbon Future. The summit will be held from October 25 to 29, building on the momentum of global climate events scheduled for this fall, including the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).

ClimateX will focus on climate and four areas: Nature & Biodiversity, Food & Health, Energy, and Transportation, through three distinct tracks: Academic, Action and Voices.

Academic papers, policy proposals, and short videos, showcasing efforts by young people to mitigate climate change, will be shared with global policy makers during the United Nations Climate Change Conference.

-Academic: Hosted by Tsinghua, Oxford, Yale and Columbia, the Academic Track calls for papers from graduate students who attend schools in GAUC, and from students at non-member universities. (Abstract submission deadline is September 5 )

-Action: Students from different GAUC universities will brainstorm climate solutions during a 5-day, 7-hour Hackathon.

-Voice: In partnership with the COP26 Universities Network, this track calls for short video clips from global youth, communicating their thoughts on climate change. (Video submission deadline is by August 31)

GAUC  was initiated in January 2019, when eight universities made a joint statement at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

Currently, GAUC has 15 member universities and the mission of the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate is to advance climate change solutions through research, education, and public outreach, and to partner with industry, non-profit and government organizations to promote rapid implementation from a local to a global scale.

GAUC will pursue this mission by promoting exchange and cooperation among member universities and providing leadership in global higher education efforts to address climate change.

Breaking / US Deputy Ambassador to (LANA): The issue of lifting the frozen Libyan funds, I think that when there is a government that is actually representative of the Libyan people, and needs these funds to spend on the Libyan people and infrastructure, then it will return to the Libyans, which is in need of protection, or else it will be lost.

We will not allow any country to lift the embargo imposed by the United Nations on frozen Libyan funds, as these are funds that belong to the Libyan people.

There are more than (60) billion dollars in frozen funds, and they must be protected, in addition to other stolen funds that can be pursued and retrieved, and these are huge funds.

Libyan-American Talks To Develop And Strengthen Cooperation Relations In The Fields Of Oil And Gas.

Tripoli, Minister of Oil and Gas “Mohamed Oun” discussed with the Deputy Ambassador of the United States of America in Libya “Leslie Ordiman” and the Director of American Aid and the delegation accompanying them, ways to develop cooperation between the two countries in the field of oil and gas.

The meeting, which was held at the ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli, in the presence of the Undersecretary for Production Affairs, “Rifaat Al-Abbar”, also discussed the contribution of the US government and American oil companies to developing and strengthening the capabilities of the oil and gas sector in Libya.

In The Presence Of Al-Manfi, Dbaiba Meets A Number Of Members Of Parliament.

li, The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdel Hamid Al-Dbaiba, held a meeting with a number of members of the House of Representatives, representing different electoral districts, in the presence of the President of the Presidential Council, Muhammad Al-Manfi.

The Prime Minister clarified that these counter-meetings are important and should take place on a regular basis, stressing that activating the parliamentary committees to follow up on the ministries has become an urgent necessity to determine the situation in a realistic manner, and that the government is still waiting for the approval of the budget to implement its plan.

In turn, the President of the Presidential Council welcomed participation in this meeting, which aims to remedy any difficulties or problems the government faces in performing its work, stressing the need for everyone to cooperate in the file of national reconciliation and the unification of the military institution, which is the responsibility of the Presidential Council.

Representative “Salem Guenidi” explained that the aim of the meeting is to follow up on the government’s performance and to identify the difficulties it is facing, as well as to listen to the notes recorded by a large number of deputies to work on addressing them.

Also, during the meeting, the door for discussion was opened for members of the House of Representatives and to listen to their comments and respond to them by the Prime Minister, and it was agreed at the end of the meeting that meetings should be held periodically to discuss any political or administrative developments.

National Oil Corporation Is Following Up With Eni And Mellitah Oil And Gas The Implementation Of A Number Of Gas Production Projects.

Tripoli, The National Oil Corporation, followed up with Eni and Mellitah Oil and Gas Company, the implementation plan of the offshore installations development project (A and E), which is among the strategic projects targeted to be implemented according to the exploration and production sharing agreements and the gas production operating agreement.

The agreement includes strategic projects to be implemented by the joint venture team of Mellitah Oil and Gas Company, which is composed of the two partners (the National Oil Corporation and Eni North Africa). The project aims to avoid any shortage of gas quantities to supply the local and international market according to the agreements concluded, which entails penal fines on the Libyan state for failing to fulfill its contractual obligations to supply gas, in addition to bearing high additional costs as a result of purchasing diesel fuel to operate electric stations instead of gas. During the visual presentation, the activities of the basic and advanced engineering designs for the “A and E” development project were reviewed, in addition to the most important developments and bottlenecks facing the team within this project, in addition to the Bahr al-Salam gas compressors project and the Bouri gas exploitation project.
