ISTANBUL, The US ambassador to Libya and the special envoy Richard Norland confirmed that the soldiers of the Wagner Company are not affiliated with a private security company but rather a branch of the Russian government, according to the Media Center for the ministries, bodies and institutions of the National Unity Government.

The center quoted Ambassador Norland during his visit to Turkey from Egypt as saying: (No one has any illusions that all foreign forces will leave the country at once, but reducing them will contribute to maintaining stability and the political process, and countries that have a military presence in Libya are aware that their interests are protected through relations. Political and economic are more effective than military methods)

Richard Norland noted that Turkey is a very important partner in the political process in Libya, explaining that his recent visit to Turkey (an attempt to bring it together with Egypt as it is in the common interest of Egypt, Turkey and the United States, to consolidate political gains in Libya and to maintain the current drive towards a political solution and hold elections in December 2021.).

Tripoli, Tunisian Presidency announced Thursday that the President of the Presidency Council Mohamed Al Mnefi is visiting Tunisia on Saturday for three days in reply to an invitation from President Qeis Saied.

In a statement posted to its SMS page, the Presidency said Al mnefi’s visit is within the framework of bolstering the strong historical links and partnership between the two countries in all areas.

The visit will be an opportunity for discussing bilateral cooperation and ways of upgrading exchange to fulfill the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples, and to continue the coordination and consultation on regional and international issues of common interest according to the statement.

Tripoli, UN Special Envoy to Libya Jan Kupis has had a meeting with the Interior Minister Khalid Mazen with whom he discussed efforts by the Interior Ministry to secure Dec. 24 elections.

Kupis praised efforts by the Ministry to combat irregular migration. He and Mazen stressed the need to address all aspects of irregular migration including arrangements for returning migrants to their homelands in coordination with their governments.

Tripoli, UN Special Envoy to Libya Jan Kupis has expressed his dissatisfaction over progress of the meetings of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum which he said gave an indication that the participants were sitting in House of Representatives not the Political Dialogue Forum.

‘With all due respect for all members, my remarks should by no means understood that they meant to belittle anyone, but I had the feeling that it was like we are not in the Political Dialogue Forum, but in one of the meetings of the High Council of State or the House of Representatives, Kupis said, noting that emphasis was sometimes put on, not on how can we get to the target, which is implementation of the roadmap adopted by the Forum, creating of the proper atmosphere for the Dec.24 elections, but some interventions looked as if they were trying to bring solutions to the outstanding problems of the last decade.

Kupis said some proposals suggested the need for ending the transition period for the sake of holding elections on the set time Dec.24 to allow the Libyan people to make their decisions, which indicted that you have more things that unite you than those dividing you.

The UN Envoy told the participants that they have to put in place a clear defined plan that includes confidence-building measures and measures for security and national reconciliation. Participation of women, youth and cultural components is key if not necessary and vital to any success on the long run for national reconciliation, he said.
