US Embassy: The presence of mercenaries and foreign fighters in Libya destabilizes regional stability

Tripoli- Today, Wednesday, the US Embassy in Libya welcomed the results of the meetings of the Joint Military Committee (5 + 5), which concluded its work today in Cairo.

The embassy confirmed, in a tweet on Twitter, that it supports the call of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Mission in Libya, Abdullah Batili, regarding the withdrawal of foreign fighters and mercenaries from Libya.

The US Embassy in Libya considered that the presence of mercenaries and foreign fighters on Libyan territory destabilizes, undermines security and fuels regional instability.

Today, Wednesday, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, the meetings of the Joint Military Committee (5 + 5) were concluded under the auspices of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, “Abdullah Batili.”

The committee adopted an integrated mechanism for joint coordination regarding the collection and exchange of data on mercenaries and foreign fighters, in preparation for their withdrawal from Libyan territory, according to a statement issued by the UN mission in Libya.

India is studying the return of its embassy to Tripoli and the return of its companies to work in Libya

Tripoli- The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Cooperation and Organizations, Omar Kuti, received today, Wednesday, the Indian Ambassador to Libya, Ngolkham Gangti.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Cooperation, Omar Katti, said that he discussed with the Indian ambassador the possibility of moving the Indian embassy from Tunisia to Tripoli, and the return of Indian companies to work in the country.

He added that, he discussed with the Indian ambassador cooperation in the field of international organizations, nominations for positions in international organizations, and many issues of common concern.

During the meeting, the Indian ambassador affirmed support for the efforts of the national unity government, to hold elections as soon as possible, and to promote stability in Libya.

Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation receives the Director of Islamic Affairs

Jeddah -The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Taha, affirmed the permanent position of the organization in support of Libya ,the unity of its people, and the integrity of its territories, and support all efforts to hold the elections.

This came during a meeting of the Secretary-General of the Organization at its headquarters in Jeddah, with Director of the Department of Islamic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Saif Al-Bey.

According to the communication office of the organization, the Secretary-General stressed the organization’s support for all initiatives and efforts that contribute to resolving the Libyan crisis politically, in order to ensure the return of security and stability in Libya, preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people.

Abdullah Al-Lafi discusses with the Dutch ambassador developments in the political scene in Libya

Tripoli- The deputy in the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, discussed with the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Libya, “Dolf Hockoning”, developments in the Libyan political scene and ways to advance the political process, by emphasizing the holding of electoral benefits.

The Presidential Council stated on its Facebook page that the two sides reviewed during their meeting today, Monday, the results of the work of the preparatory forum for national reconciliation, and the steps taken in preparation for the convening of the inclusive conference.

The Dutch ambassador praised the role of the Presidency Council in the national reconciliation file, stressing the success of the preparatory forum for the inclusive conference, wishing to continue these steps, which would reach agreement on the constitutional basis for electoral entitlement.

For his part, Al-Lafi stressed the keenness of the Presidential Council to complete the electoral process that the Libyan people are waiting for, appreciating the efforts of the Netherlands, and the rest of the members of the working group emanating from the Berlin Dialogue on international and humanitarian law, in supporting the political process and the file of national reconciliation in Libya.

The Chief of Staff receives the Commander of the Joint Forces at the British Ministry of Defence

Tripoli- The Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General “Muhammad Al-Haddad”, reviewed with the Commander of the Joint Forces in the British Ministry of Defence, Major General “Jim Morris”, the bilateral cooperation relations between Libya and the United Kingdom.

This came during the reception of “Al-Haddad” today, Monday, at the headquarters of the General Staff in the capital, Tripoli, for the British military delegation, which is visiting Libya, in the presence of the commander of the Supreme War College, and the director of the Planning and Follow-up Department.

The meeting discussed prospects for joint cooperation, and enhancing means of support in the fields of military and security training and consultations between the two countries.

The media center of the General Staff of the Libyan Army reported that Lieutenant General Al-Haddad thanked the United Kingdom for its international stances in support of Libya.

In turn – according to the same source – Major General “Jim Morris” stressed the provision of military support in various fields, and that work is underway to coordinate the various training programs.

Batili and Haftar agree on the urgent need to unify institutions, including the military

Tripoli- The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, “Abdullah Batili,” met today, Monday, in Benghazi, Field Marshal “Khalifa Haftar” to discuss the current political, security and societal situation in Libya.

“It was agreed that all parties should participate constructively and without delay in developing a constitutional framework to facilitate free, fair and transparent elections in 2023,” Batili said in a tweet that he posted on his Twitter account.

“I asked Field Marshal Haftar to continue his support for the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee, and I commended his commitment to support the implementation of the action plan for the withdrawal of foreign fighters, foreign forces and mercenaries. This will contribute to achieving sustainable peace and stability in Libya,” Batili continued in his tweet.

The UN envoy added that it was agreed on the urgent need to unify state institutions, including the military, and to promote transparent management of national resources to ensure the benefit of all segments of the Libyan people.
