HH the Amir Leaves Bangladesh, Heads to Nepal

Dhaka: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani left Dhaka on Tuesday after a state visit to the friendly People’s Republic of Bangladesh, heading to Kathmandu for a state visit to friendly Nepal.

HH the Amir was seen off upon departure at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by HE Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Hasan Mahmud, HE State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu, and HE Ambassador of Bangladesh to the State of Qatar Mohammed Nazrul Islam.

HH the Amir was accompanied by an official delegation.

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs meets with Estonian Foreign Ministry Secretary-General

Luxembourg, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, met Jonatan Vseviov, the Secretary-General of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the sidelines of the High-Level Forum on Regional Security and Cooperation between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The two sides reviewed ways to promote cooperation between Bahrain and Estonia.

The meeting also discussed regional and international issues within the framework of the two countries’ keenness to consolidate regional and international security, peace and prosperity.

The meeting was attended by Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabur AlDoseri, Ambassador of Bahrain to Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Head of Mission to the European Union.

Arab Media Excellence Award Committee Begins its Second Meeting at Arab League


Cairo: The second meeting of the Arab Media Excellence Award Committee began today at the Arab League headquarters, chaired by Kuwait, with the participation of representatives from several member states of the committee.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was represented at the meeting by Saudi Broadcasting Authority (SBA) Director General of Production Saad Al-Aoun.

The Arab League assistant secretary general and supervisor of the media and communication sector, Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, indicated in his opening speech that the meeting aims to study submissions from member states, evaluate their alignment with the award’s criteria and standards, and select the best among them.

He also noted that winners’ names would be announced during the 54th session of the Council of the Arab Information Ministers, scheduled to be held in the Kingdom of Bahrain at the end of May.

4.9-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Papua New Guinea

Port Moresby, An earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Papua New Guinea on Tuesday.

The epicenter of the earthquake occurred 84 km from the city of Lae, at a depth of 103.3 km, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

There have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake.

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck New Britain region in Papua New Guinea on April 15.

Papua New Guinea is located in the so-called Ring of Fire, a region that extends along the coast of the Pacific Ocean and is characterized by high seismic and volcanic activity. This region includes 90 percent of the active volcanoes in the world.

Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Meets Officials of Swiss Federal Department for Foreign Affairs

Bern, HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi met separately in Bern today with HE Head of Middle East and North Africa Division of Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland Ambassador Maya Tissafi, HE Head of the Prosperity and Sustainability Division at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland Ambassador Alexandra Baumann, and HE Head of the Peace and Human Rights Division at the Swiss Federal Department for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Simon Geissbuhler.

During the meetings, they discussed relations between the two countries, reinforcing cooperation in mediation field, in addition to the developments in the Gaza Strip and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Ukraine, Afghanistan and Africa.

HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Swiss Confederation Mohamed bin Jaham Al Kuwari attended the meetings.
