Ministry of Culture Hosts Seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights: Cultural Dimensions”

Doha: The Ministry of Culture organized Wednesday a seminar titled “Intellectual Property Rights: Cultural Dimensions,” with the participation of Director of the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Amna Al Kuwari, and Director of the Ministry’s Cultural Seminars Project Jamal Fayez.

In her speech at the seminar, Amna Al Kuwari addressed the concerns of the book, literary, author, and artist sectors, outlining the procedures they must follow to protect their intellectual property rights. She also highlighted the areas of cooperation between the Ministries of Commerce and Industry and Culture, which contribute to safeguarding intellectual property rights.

Al Kuwari emphasized the importance of authors taking the necessary steps to protect their intellectual property rights, ensuring the preservation of their literary works. She noted Qatar’s active membership in numerous organizations, including the Arab League and international organizations. For insta
nce, she served as Chair of the Arab League’s Intellectual Property Technical Committee.

Al Kuwari pointed to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s digital transformation efforts, enabling authors to complete all intellectual property protection procedures through the ministry’s website within minutes.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency , Director of the Ministry’s Cultural Seminars Project Jamal Fayez explained that the organization of this seminar falls within the Ministry of Culture’s cultural season and the international days agenda adopted by the United Nations. He considered it one of the most important seminars that concern writers, authors, and other stakeholders in the intellectual fields.

Fayez stressed that Qatar has made significant strides in protecting the rights of creators, stating that authors can now protect their literary works by obtaining a local deposit number through the Dar Al Kutub Al Qatariya and an international ISBN (International Standard Book Number).

6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue Kicks Off in Azerbaijan

The 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue themed “Dialogue for Peace and Global Security” kicked off on Wednesday in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The three-day forum is organized by the government of Azerbaijan, in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), the World Tourism Organization (WTO), and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), and brings together 700 distinguished guests representing more than 100 countries, along with senior government officials.

The forum aims to contribute to strengthening global peace and security through constructive dialogue. The forum will feature 4 plenary sessions and 12 panel discussions on topics such as education, youth, climate change, artificial intelligence, protection of cultural heritage, illegal migration, and other areas.

In his opening speech at the forum, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said: “Azerbaijan has been a c
rossroads of cultures for centuries. Our geographical location, positioned between East and West, has paved the way for this tendency.” “We are strongly committed to multilateralism and have promoted the values of multilateralism during our four-year chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement from 2019 until the beginning of this year.” He emphasized that during Azerbaijan’s presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement, important steps were taken for its institutional formation, recalling the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement’s parliamentary network, the youth organization, and the women’s platform at the initiative of Azerbaijan. He said: “I am sure that the institutional development of the Non-Aligned Movement will continue in the future.” He added that the intercultural dialogue within Azerbaijan has always been very positive. He pointed out that multiculturalism is not just a concept for the citizens of Azerbaijan, but rather a way of life.

The World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, which is an integral
part of the “Baku Process” on intercultural dialogue initiated by President Ilham Aliyev in 2008, was first held in Baku in 2011, and subsequently organized in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019. The number of countries and organizations participating in the Forum has significantly increased over the past period.

Chinese Shenzhou-17 Astronauts Return Safely with Six-Month Space Station Mission Accomplished

The three Shenzhou-17 astronauts returned to Earth safely after completing a six-month space station mission.

Shenzhou-17’s return capsule, carrying astronauts Tang Hongbo, Tang Shengjie and Jiang Xinlin, touched down at the Dongfeng landing site in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and the crew all left the return capsule, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).

The three astronauts, after staying in orbit for 187 days, are all in good health and the Shenzhou-17 manned mission was a success, the CMSA said.

The return capsule separated from Shenzhou-17’s orbital capsule on Tuesday. Then it began its return journey to Earth.

Katara Crowns Winners of “Naham Al Khaleej” 2024

Doha: April 30 – The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara held a ceremony today to crown the winners of the fourth edition of Al Nahma Musical,”Naham Al Khaleej” at the conclusion of the event.

General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti crowned the sea shanty artist Ahmed Mishal Al-Borshid from Bahrain who was ranked first and won the title of “Naham Al Khaleej” 2024 and awarded a prize worth QR100,000, with the artist Ali Al Sabhati from Saudi Arabia being ranked second and received QR70,000.

Additionally, the artist Ali bin Hussein Abdul Hamid from Kuwait was ranked third received QR30,000, while Sultan Omar Al Kuwari received the Jury encouragement prize.

Members of the jury committee lauded the high art levels of the participating sea shanty artists, noting their incredible song voices and wonderful skills performed which were strongly associated with the inveterate maritime patrimony and were the major reasons behind this successful and nurtured edition
of the sea shanty.

They praised the role of Katara in launching pioneering initiatives that primarily aim to preserve sea shanty, revive the legacy of “Naham Al Khaleej” and help children, young people and the generations internalize this art.

For their part, the sea shanty artists participating in this edition expressed their happiness for the good reputation and the global privilege of this award, affirming that attracting young artists from various territories of the region will help maintain the art legacy.

Industry Minister Begins Official Visit to Qatar

Riyadh: Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef began an official visit to the State of Qatar today to discuss economic ties and means to boost them in the industrial and mining sectors.

He is scheduled to meet with several ministers, government officials and investors in the industrial and mining sectors and visit multiple companies and factories.

Saudi non-oil exports such as building materials, precious metals, jewellery and heavy machinery to Qatar in 2022 stood at SAR4.2 billion, while imports amounted to around SAR700 million.

Saudi Artisanal Company Victorious at World Food Gift Challenge

Abha, Saudi Artisanal Company emerged victorious at this year’s World Food Gift Challenge, claiming two out of 10 awards.

The event was held in the Asir region from April 22 to 25 under the auspices of the Culinary Arts Commission, in collaboration with the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT).

The company participated in a competitive field of global entries evaluated based on, among others, creativity, innovation, and sustainability.

Its ‘Saudi Khawlani Coffee Collection’, inspired by the mountainous terrain of Jazan’s Mount Tallan, won the Best Luxury Item award.

The company’s success continued with the ‘Date Bowls Collection’, which won the Best Contemporary and Interpretation Design award.

The bowls celebrate the Kingdom’s rich heritage and reflect the artistic styles of three distinct cultures: Al-Ahsa, Najd, and Asir.
