Saudi Delegation Participates in the 67th Session of the UN Committee for the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space

Vienna: The Saudi delegation concluded its participation in the 67th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), held in Vienna, Austria, from June 19 to 28.

This activity confirms Saudi Arabia’s commitment to promoting international cooperation for the peaceful and sustainable use of outer space and highlights its efforts in developing the global space industry.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Saudi delegation hosted a meeting entitled ‘The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Towards Space: Stimulating the Space Sector.’ Attended by more than 80 space leaders and experts, the meeting targeted promising opportunities to advance the global space industry to new heights.

The meeting was opened by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Dr. Abdullah bin Khaled Toula. He highlighted the important role of global cooperation in supporting the space sector, noting the importa
nce of international cooperation and coordination in the continued growth and sustainability of space activities around the world.

The Saudi delegation highlighted the significant progress achieved in developing the space sector in the Kingdom, including the country’s key achievements to enhance space sustainability through initiatives such as the Space Debris Conference held last February.

Voting Time of Iran Presidential Election Extended

The Iranian Interior Ministry has extended the voting time of Iran’s 14th presidential election for a third two hours across the country.

Polls opened at 8 a.m. local time (0430 GMT) today. They were supposed to close at 6:00 p.m.

The spokesperson for Iran’s election headquarters Mohsen Eslami announced on Friday that the time for voting has been extended for a third two hours until 12:00 a.m. (local time).

As many as 58,640 polling stations in Iran and 344 others abroad have been set up for the 14th presidential election, according to Iran’s news agency (IRNA).

Over 61 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the election.

Candidates Saeed Jalili, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Massoud Pezeshkian, and Mostafa Pourmohammadi have remained in the race, while Amirhossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi and Alireza Zakani have dropped their candidacy.

Technology Exhibition and Program Market of the Arab States Broadcasting Union Launched in Tunis

Tunis: The technology exhibition ‘ASPO’ for radio, television, and program market was launched yesterday in the City of Culture in the capital, Tunis. Organized by the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) within the framework of the 24th session of the Arab Radio and Television Festival, the event included 90 exhibitors distributed over 98 pavilions.

The Acting Minister of Culture Affairs of Tunisia, Moncef Boukthir; the President of the Arab States Broadcasting Union and CEO of the Radio and Television Corporation, Mohammed bin Fahd Al-Harithi; and the Director-General of the Union, Eng. Abdel Rahim Suleiman co-opened the exhibition.

The most famous and oldest international companies that manufacture modern, integrated, and multimedia radio and television equipment, production and distribution companies for audio-visual content, both Arab and international, and providers of advanced services and technology, in addition to ASBU member bodies, television networks, private radio stations, and Arabic-speaking
international satellite channels, are participating in ASPO and the software market.

On the sidelines of the opening of the technology exhibition, Al-Harithi presented honorary shields to a number of Tunisian and Arab media figures and personalities at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s pavilion.

Several Palestinians Injured by Israeli Occupation Forces in West Bank

A Palestinian was injured by Israeli occupation forces’ bullets during their storming of the town of Beit Ummar, south of Hebron, in the West Bank.

Palestinian sources said that the occupation forces stormed the Al-Dhahr area in the town, and fired live bullets, stun grenades, and poisonous gas towards citizens and their homes, which led to a young man being injured by live bullets in the shoulder, while others suffered suffocation.

The occupation forces also stormed the town of Al-Samu’ in Hebron, and beat a young man, leaving him injured and bruised.

In a related context, the occupation forces stormed the town of Al-Zawiya, west of Salfit, detained two young men and beat them.

The occupation forces arrested a Palestinian from the village of Kafr Qalil, south of Nablus.

The Israeli occupation forces stormed the village, roamed a number of its streets, and arrested a young man. Colonists also set fire to the lands of the town of Beit Furik, east of Nablus, security sources said .

In Jenin Governorate,
the occupation forces stormed Arraba town and the villages of Fahma and Al-Taybeh, and launched a search campaign of citizens’ homes there.

GCC States Attach Great Importance on Promoting, Protecting Women’s Rights Economic Empowerment

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States have underlined the great importance they attach to the issue of promoting and protecting women’s rights and empowering them economically, and said that they have taken many measures aimed at empowering women and stimulating their participation in all sectors.

This came in a statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Dr. Hind bint Abdulrahman Al Muftah on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) States, in her capacity as Chair of the GCC Group, during the annual full-day discussion on women’s human rights, within the framework of the 56th Session of Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The GCC States indicated that they invested heavily in developing female cadres, and bet on giving Gulf women a high-quality education and training them on an ongoing basis in order to enhance their presence in all sectors.

They pointed out that this explains the continuous successes and leadership positions that Gu
lf women hold today, which are a source of pride for all GCC countries.

The GCC States stressed the need to focus more on supporting women to hold leadership positions, because this would constitute an important motivation for other women and girls, and push them to participate more effectively and influentially in economic life.

The GCC States explained that, in this context, they have harnessed significant resources to support all initiatives that seek to support and finance businesswomen, which has had a very positive impact on the advanced position that Gulf women enjoy today in the field of entrepreneurship.

The GCC States expressed their regret for the situation of women in Gaza and Rafah and the economic situation of women in developing countries, emphasizing the need for redoubling efforts by the international community to contribute to closing the gap in wages and supporting their economic rights more comprehensively.

The 24th Arab Radio and Television Festival Commences in Tunis

Tunis: The 24th Arab Radio and Television Festival commenced last Wednesday in the Tunisian capital of Tunis. Organized by the Arab States Broadcasting Union in collaboration with Tunisian radio and television institutions and the Arabsat Foundation, the event saw participation from representatives of the union’s member bodies, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as representatives from Arab production companies, private news agencies, foreign Arabic-speaking radio and television stations, and private radio and television networks, along with international radio and television unions.

During the opening ceremony, the president of the Arab Radio and Television Union and CEO of the Radio and Television Authority, Mohammed bin Fahd Al-Harithi, honored several distinguished guests, including former advisor to the Radio and Television Authority Saad Al-Jaris, as well as several media figures and academics in the field of Arab radio and television.

The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of num
erous film, drama, and media stars from various Arab and foreign countries.
