What is Happening in Gaza is Purely Genocide, Says UN Official

The United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on the right to health Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng said that there is no other expression to describe the situation unfolding in the Gaza Strip except genocide.

Speaking on the margins of the 56th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, on Friday, Mofokeng added that people in Gaza are striving to survive as it is the only thing that they can really do right now. She added that the psychological situation of Gazans has deteriorated as they suffer more dangerous shock due the ongoing Israeli bombardment.

Mofokeng pointed out that the information about the latest situation of health facilities in Gaza still comes from the World Health Organization (WHO), alongside other relief organizations operating there, stressing that the inability of Gazas hospitals to receive the essential medical supplies, along with killing health care personnel during their mission make the attack on the right to health more unequivocal. She highlighted that she cannot predict how
long the reconstruction of health infrastructure in the Strip would be.

On Thursday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) stated that Gazans are in desperate need of health care, highlighting that a few health centers are still operating in the enclave, while the main encumberment lies in the severe shortage of medicines and fuel, thus precluding life-saving operations.

For the 266th day, the Israeli occupation army continues to launch full and unprecedented offensive in the Gaza enclave through airstrikes and assault from sea and land, committing pogroms against the Palestinian civilians which resulted in thousands of martyrs, wounded and missing people, in addition to inflicting massive devastation upon the critical infrastructure.
