Bahrain EDB, Harvard Business School Club of GCC host Think Tank


Manama, Bahrain Economic Development Board (Bahrain EDB), and Harvard Business School’s (HBS) Club of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a non-profit organisation representing over 1,400 HBS alumni in the GCC, hosted an alumni-exclusive Think Tank under the title “Local Talent: Global Reach – Bahrain: A Hub for Talent.”

This event shed light on the dynamic talent landscape influenced by rapid technological advancements and the green transition, featuring a panel discussion with the participation of Professor Dr. Ciarán Ó Catháin, Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Polytechnic, Nada Al Saeed, Chief of Strategy and Research at Bahrain EDB, and Alaa Saeed, Co-founder of Array Innovation, an AI and Cloud native digital provider.

Moderated by Megha Mittal, Chartered member, HBS Club of the GCC, and CEO of MemiFriends, the panel explored the economic implications of the evolving talent landscape, the necessary infrastructure, private-public collaborations, and the educational measures required to prepare the wo
rkforce for future demands.

Saleh Lootah, President of HBS Club of the GCC said that this event, in partnership with the Bahrain EDB, underscored the commitment to advancing the regional business, educational, and social climate through active engagement with key stakeholders.

Industry Minister participates in NUSACC roundtable


Washington, Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce, participated in roundtable discussions organised by the National US-Arab Chamber of Commerce (NUSACC).

David Hammoud, President and CEO of the National US-Arab Chamber of Commerce, and Sameer Abdulla Nass, Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), were present.

The discussions highlighted the means to enhance economic cooperation by strengthening trade and investment ties and encouraging the exchange of expertise in various fields.

They emphasised the importance of strengthening and activating the role of the private sector in developing cooperation and creating strategic partnerships between companies and institutions.

The discussions reviewed promising investment opportunities presented by Bahrain in various sectors, including industry, technology, tourism, and logistics, noting the advantages and facilities provided by the Kingdom to attract investors. The discussions also highlighted the importance of the f
ree trade agreement in enhancing trade exchange and facilitating investment flow.

For his part, Hammoud commended Bahrain’s progress in developing the business environment, and its adoption of open economic policies that attract qualitative investment in major economic projects.

He emphasised the importance of further developing joint work between the chamber and the ministry to enhance cooperation between the business communities in both countries and leveraging existing investment and economic opportunities.

Omani Sultan, Swedish King hold phone call


Muscat, A telephone call was held today between His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman, and King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden.

They reviewed Omani-Swedish ties and cooperation, and exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported.

Industry Minister meets US Trade Representative


Washington, Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce, met with Ambassador Catherine Tai, the United States Trade Representative, as part of the minister’s official visit to the US.

Shaikh Hamad bin Salman Al Khalifa, Assistant Undersecretary for Domestic and Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, was present.

During the meeting, the minister highlighted the strong Bahrain-US relations through joint agreements, mutual visits, and various trade programmes.

The minister affirmed the Kingdom’s keenness to enhance trade cooperation with the US in various sectors.

He emphasised the important role of the private sector in both countries to benefit from bilateral agreements, which will contribute to enhancing trade and expanding the scope of exports and imports.

Saudi Defence Minister meets Chinese counterpart


Beijing, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Saudi Minister of Defense, met with Lieutenant General Dong Jun, the Minister of Defense of China.

The meeting discussed Saudi-Chinese relations and the means to further strengthen them within the framework of the strategic defense partnership, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

Speaker lauds Bahrain securing Tier 1 status in US State Department’s Trafficking in Persons report


Manama, The vision led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has contributed to building a comprehensive human rights framework to combat trafficking in persons, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, said.

The Speaker said that Bahrain’s success in maintaining Tier 1 status for the seventh consecutive year in the US State Department’s Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report, which assesses 188 countries in combating trafficking in persons, demonstrates global recognition for the Kingdom’s efforts.

Al Musallam highlighted the advanced laws regulating the labour market in Bahrain, developing the work environment which upholds the rights of all parties in all fairness and transparency, protection of the rights of workers, and initiating proactive steps to combat trafficking in persons, through cooperation between the LMRA, the embassies of labour-exporting cou
ntries, civil society institutions and international organisations. He added that these factors have contributed to increasing awareness and community partnership to reduce illegal practices.

The Speaker commended the establishment of a department specialised in preventive monitoring within the LMRA, intensifying inspection campaigns to address irregular employment, protection of expatriate workers, addressing forced labour, development of the wage protection system, and reduction of labour disputes, which reflects Bahrain’s commitment to combat trafficking in persons.

Al Musallam highlighted Bahrain’s development in this area through establishing the national referral system for victims of trafficking in persons and the Expat Protection Centre (EPC), allocating a special prosecution and court for crimes of trafficking in persons, establishing an office for the protection of victims and witnesses, and providing administrative assistance to expatriate workers in filing labour lawsuits and civil lawsuits for
registered workers, all of which creates a leading system in providing labour protection.

He expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the National committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons and other government bodies, which contributed to reinforcing Bahrain’s position internationally in combating trafficking in persons.
