Riyadh: Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) issued a press release today announcing the introduction of Namour, a character that aims to inspire young people in Saudi Arabia to be environmental heroes.

Named after the Arabic word for Arabian leopard (Nimr), Namour represents strength, power, and grace, symbolizing Saudi Arabia’s dedication to environmental conservation and sustainability.

Namour aligns with Saudi Arabia’s inclusive approach to tackling environmental challenges, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among sectors and generations. SGI introduced this character to inspire young people in Saudi Arabia to actively protect nature and preserve biodiversity.

Namour is supported by the Ministry of Education and SGI, which work together to increase environmental awareness and action among children and youth in Saudi Arabia.

Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites Announces its Plan for Hajj Season 1445 AH

Makkah: The Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites (RCMC) announced its plan for the Hajj season and the completion of its projects that facilitate pilgrims experience during performing Hajj and raise the level of services provided to them.

The RCMC said that its plan includes many supportive projects, starting with developing the infrastructure in the holy sites, improving transportation system services, and the sacrificial animal project, in addition to the awareness campaign for Hajj pilgrims which promotes the correct practices during the performance of Hajj rituals.

The RCMC indicated that it had established several axes, intersections and lanes for a number of ring roads in Makkah ahead of the Hajj season, to reduce travel time for pilgrims, most notably the project of the northern part of the Third Ring Road, with a length of 7.5 km, linking the Madinah Road to the Jamarat facility.

The newly established road consists of three main lanes with a speed of up to 100 km/h and includes two servi
ce lanes for each direction, a number of regular entrances and exits that connect surrounding neighborhoods, and 8 bridges and ramps with a total length of 2.2 kilometers. The road features lighting with signboards and traffic signs.

“Many of the axes on the First Ring Road have been linked to vital projects, such as the Masar Destination Project, the Jabal Omar Project, the expansion project, Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road, Ajyad Road and the Grand Mosque, in addition to operating a number of axes and intersections on the Second Ring Road’, said the RCMC, noting that it has worked on a frequency transportation route for the guests of God from their homes to the Grand Mosque, with a capacity estimated at about 74 million passengers, which reduces transportation time to the central area, helps organize and distribute density of pilgrims, lessen traffic pressure and limit irregular transportation.

The RCMC has specified 3 dedicated pathways for electric scooters, which is a new pioneering experience, aiming
to facilitate the movement of the pilgrims between the holy sites, which are: the Muzdalifah – Mina path and the western and eastern pedestrian road paths for the Jamarat facility. The length of each path is about 1.2 kilometers and 25 metres wide.

The RCMC shed light on the Project for Utilization of Hady and Adahi (Adahi Project, animal sacrifice carried out by pilgrims), which is one of the pioneering national projects and is located on a total area estimated at one million square meters and includes the largest industrial refrigeration project in the world with a storage capacity exceeding one million heads of animals, highlighting that the project uses, for the first time, AI technology in counting sacrificial heads, as 30 of them are numbered per minute which means a slaughtered animal every two seconds.

The RCMC also added that it worked on rehabilitation of the spatial Miqats for Ihram, aiming to improve the quality of pilgrimage experience, in addition to launching awareness messages that are broad
cast across multimedia and social media networks to promote the best practices during performing the Hajj and highlighting how to optimize the benefits from the unique journey of Hajj.
