Saudi, Moroccan Health Ministers Discuss Cooperation at WHA77


Geneva, Minister of Health Fahd bin Abdurrahman Al-Jalajel met with Moroccan Minister of Health and Social Protection Khaled Ait Taleb on the sidelines of the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA77) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Al-Jalajel and Taleb discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, aligning visions, and exchanging expertise in the health fields as part of the historic and robust relations between Saudi Arabia and Morocco.

Islamic Affairs Ministry Completes Preparations to Receive Pilgrims at King Fahd Causeway


Dammam, The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance’s Eastern Region branch completed all preparations to assist pilgrims arriving through the King Fahd Causeway from Bahrain.

The comprehensive preparations included establishing preaching and guidance facilities at the port and deploying administrative and qualified teams to guide pilgrims before they entered the Kingdom’s territories.

This involved delivering speeches and dawa lessons four times a day at Causeway Mosque to familiarize pilgrims with the rituals of Hajj and its timing, a crucial step to ensure they feel fully prepared for their pilgrimage. A service to respond to pilgrims’ inquiries was provided. Also provided to pilgrims were guidance publications, including an introduction to Hajj, correction of beliefs, supplications, and remembrances, along with booklets and brochures related to Hajj rituals.

A corner was prepared at the crossing point to receive pilgrims, and all necessary capabilities were provided to serve pilgrims and offer
them the necessary support and comprehensive information about the “Rushd” application and other services available to pilgrims, ensuring they feel guided and prepared for their Hajj pilgrimage.

5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Vanuatu

An earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Thursday off the coast of the Vanuatu in the South Pacific Ocean.

The US Geological Survey said that the quake occurred 123 km of Sola, Vanuatu, at a depth of 35 km.

No casualties or material losses were reported.

Vanuatu is an archipelago of volcanic origin that lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone of frequent seismic activity.

Saudi Arabia Participates in Meeting of GCC Municipal Affairs Committee


Doha, Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing Majed Al-Hogail led the Saudi Arabian delegation to the 27th meeting of the committee of ministers responsible for municipal affairs in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held Thursday in Doha.

The meeting in the Qatari capital focused on various shared issues in the municipal affairs sector.

Al-Hogail expressed Saudi Arabia’s pleasure to host the 12th annual Gulf Municipal Work Conference in Riyadh from October 6 to 8, which will revolve around the theme of “sustainable municipal work.” He emphasized the importance of active participation from private-sector companies and institutions across the GCC countries to foster cooperation and expertise exchange during this significant gathering.

Today’s meeting addressed the proposed executive plan for initiatives related to the urban environment committee in the2 024-2030 municipal action plan. Participants discussed updates on the executive plan for initiatives related to the municipal legislation and c
ontrol mechanisms committee in the municipal action plan.

The meeting also reviewed guidelines for regulating food carts and social housing, approving procedures for the withdrawal and seizure of abandoned and damaged vehicles, and requirements guide for public health control companies operating in the GCC countries.

The committee called upon GCC member countries and the Secretariat General to actively participate in international forums and showcase the achievements of joint Gulf municipal work.

It highlighted the ongoing need for the exchange of experts and specialists in the municipal field among GCC countries and the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with international organizations specialized in municipal affairs.

Russian Defense Downs 8 Ukrainian Missiles, 8 Drones, 2 Drone Boats

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced Thursday that its air forces destroyed 8 Ukrainian missiles over the Sea of Azov, 5 drones over Krasnodar, and two drone boats that were heading towards the Crimean Peninsula.

A statement issued by the Ministry said that the forces thwarted a number of attacks carried out using US ATACMS tactical missiles.

Five Ukrainian drones were shot down over the Russian territory of Krasnodar, the Ministry added.

Ukrainian forces adopted a new strategy in targeting installations and facilities in the Russian border areas, using drones, missiles and artillery shells.

Saudi Scholarship Students Demonstrate Exceptional Academic, Research Achievements


Washington, Numerous Saudi students on scholarship at prestigious universities in Boston, United States, excelled academically and made significant research contributions, highlighting the success of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program.

The graduates achieved excellence in various fields crucial to national development, including epidemiology, biomedical engineering, medicine, occupational therapy, chemistry, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, data analysis, computer science, law, public policy, economics, finance, business administration, dentistry, and education.

In the area of research, the students demonstrated exceptional talent and creativity. For instance, Dr. Shaimaa bint Hamed Al-Zaidi — who completed a residency program in clinical pharmacy with a specialization in critical care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, affiliated with Harvard University — actively participated in conferences and published specialized scientific research papers.

A
nother example is Dr. Raghdah Al-Shaibani, who achieved first place in Boston University’s College of Dentistry’s 2023 Scientific Poster Competition and placed third in the John J. Sharry Research Competition at the Annual Meeting of the 2023 American College of Prosthodontics.

Dr. May bint Hasan Al-Arini contributed to several research projects while completing her board certification in dermatology at Tufts University Medical Center. She published a systematic review paper aiding in diagnosing skin diseases and tumors using a dermoscopy device and presented success stories of using biological injections to treat rare bullous skin diseases at the Atlantic Dermatological Conference.

Dr. Kholoud Al-Muqbel performed a fellowship in geriatric dentistry and community dentistry at Boston University, receiving several awards, including the Leverett Graduate Student Merit Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dental Public Health.

Sara bint Mahfooz, a graduate of the master’s program in public administration from
the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, received the Lucius N. Littauer Award for her contributions to the Kennedy School community, which involved establishing a training partnership between the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Harvard Kennedy Center for International Development.
