During his meeting with Ambassador Ohnmacht: Al-Aqouri praises Germany’s efforts to support peace and stability in Libya

Benghazi- Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, “Youssef Al-Aqouri,” stressed the importance of German companies returning to work in Libya, noting that the German model is an example to follow in terms of economy, unity and democratic transformation.

This came during his meeting today, Wednesday, at the headquarters of the House of Representatives in the city of Benghazi, the Ambassador of the Republic of Germany to Libya, “Michael Ohnmacht,” to discuss the latest developments and a number of files of common interest between the two countries.

He also reviewed for the meeting a number of files of common interest between the two countries, most notably the joint cooperation programs and the results of the Berlin Conference, the immigration file, and joint coordination to confront the exacerbation of the crisis.

Al-Aqouri renewed his thanks for the efforts of the Republic of Germany to support peace in Libya, referring to the projects of the German agency GIZ to support local governance, the importance of these projects and the need to provide all information about them and increase the role of the Libyan side in designing its programs.

For his part, the German ambassador “Ohnmacht” stressed the depth of relations between the two countries and his keenness to follow up issues of common interest within the scope of his competence.

The Chairman and members of the Council of the High National Elections Commission discussed today, Thursday, with a number of members of the (6+6) committee charged with preparing draft referendum and election laws, ways to implement Laws No. (27) and (28) of 2023 regarding the election of the National Assembly and the election of the Head of State.

According to the official page of the Election Commission, the meeting held at the Commission’s headquarters in Tripoli reviewed the level of readiness of the Commission and the efforts made to implement the process of electing municipal councils in accordance with Law No. (20) of 2023, issued by the House of Representatives, which transfers the powers of electing provincial and municipal councils to the Commission.

The meeting also discussed the latest developments related to the implementation of the outputs of the (6+6) Committee and exchanged views regarding putting its outputs into practice. This meeting resulted in an agreement on the necessity of continuo
us communication between the two parties to find effective solutions and practical proposals that lead to the implementation of the committee’s outputs in a way that increases the degree of their acceptance by all parties of the committee.

The UN mission denies allegations of forming a new legislative body

Tripoli- The United Nations Support Mission in Libya denied allegations about the formation of a new legislative body by an unknown organization that claimed to be affiliated with the United Nations.

In a statement, the mission confirmed in response to some inquiries about these allegations that this organization has nothing to do with the United Nations and its mission in Libya.

The mission noted that all news related to its work is published on its approved accounts on social media, and on its official website.

The Geneva-based “Human Dialogue” organization, which claimed affiliation with the United Nations, had announced its intention to form a dialogue committee to consult on choosing a presidential council and a new government in Libya.

According to the organization, the new dialogue committee will be formed of 90 dignitaries and elders of Libya and civil society institutions, and its meetings will begin on the 7th of this month for three days in the Swiss capital, Geneva.

The organization indicated that the proposal that will be discussed will discuss assigning a new government to run the country for a period of two years, during which it will focus on arranging the organization of general elections.

Georgia Meloni praises the efforts of the UNHCR in Libya and the Sahel region

Tripoli- The Prime Minister of Italy, “Georgia Meloni,” stressed the importance of her country’s cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, especially in Libya and the Sahel region.

This came in a video message published by “Meloni” on social networks to assess the outcome of 100 days of the life of the right-wing coalition government, according to what was published by the Italian news agency AKI.

The Italian Prime Minister said her government had begun to defend her country’s borders from human traffickers, referring to irregular migration flows.

Meloni met yesterday, Tuesday, with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, and they discussed the need to overcome an ideological approach that confuses the legitimate protection that must be guaranteed to refugees with policies towards migrants for economic reasons. Migration includes structural interventions and cooperation with African countries.

Libyan-Italian military talks on naval and air cooperation and training

Tripoli- The Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General “Mohammed Al-Haddad, received yesterday, Tuesday, in Tripoli, the Chief of Staff of the Italian Joint Forces, the head of the Italian Operations Support Department, the commander of the Italian support mission in Libya, and members of the accompanying delegation.

The media center of the General Staff of the Libyan Army reported that Lieutenant General Al-Haddad praised – during the interview, which was attended by the head of the Operations Authority, a member of the Training Department headed by the General Staff in the Libyan-Italian Mixed Committee, the commander of the Operations Division of the Military Engineering Department, and the commander of the Operations Division of the Naval Forces, and the Commander of Operations of the Coast Guard, and the Commander of the Operations Division of the Air Force – the importance of cooperation and joint coordination between the two countries.

The meeting discussed ways of joint cooperation in the maritime and air sectors, as well as in various fields of training.
