Palestinian Foreign Ministry: Libya offers more facilities to Palestinians

Tripoli-The Embassy of the State of Palestine in Libya announced on Thursday that the Libyan authorities have agreed to grant residencies to the retirees and workers in the private sector for a period of 5 years, and an exit and return visa for several trips, for members of the Palestinian community, exempt from fees.

In a statement, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked the Government and people of Libya for the facilities, care and attention provided to the Palestinian community members. The Ministry pointed out, in its statement published by the Palestinian news agency “Wafa” that Libya treats members of the community in terms of work, health and education on a par with Libyans, and agreed to treat “25” sick cases outside Libya and at its expense, as well as the disbursement of a grant to Palestinian students similar to Libyan students, which would strengthen the steadfastness of the Palestinian people.

Al-Mangoush receives the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in Tripoli

Tripoli-GNU Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Najla Al-Mangoush received at the Ministry’s headquarters in the capital Tripoli on Thursday the General Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court ‘ICC’ “Karim Khan”. Al-Mangoush said it hoped the meeting, the first of its kind between the Foreign Ministry of Libya and the ICC Prosecutor, would be a prelude to a close and lasting coordination between the two sides.

According to the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting dealt with strengthening cooperation between the Libyan judiciary, the International Criminal Court and the Office of the Prosecutor General, in cases related to human rights, murders, and the issue of mass graves in the city of Tarhuna, to provide international technical support in criminal matters, and developing the scope and mechanisms of cooperation, in addition to the possibility of holding an international conference in Libya under the supervision of the International Criminal Court as soon as possible.

During the meeting, Al-Mangoush praised the role of the Libyan judiciary in the performance of its tasks, stressing the consolidation of the concept of justice norms in the transitional stages, and importance of joint cooperation between the International Criminal Court and the Libyan judiciary to ensure a more effective role to establish justice, accountability and stability.

Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army meets with US Ambassador and Special Envoy to Libya

Tripoli-The Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, General Mohamed Al-Haddad, met on Wednesday in Tripoli with US Ambassador and Special Envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, and his accompanying delegation.

The Chief of the General Staff welcomed the Ambassador and his accompanying delegation, praising the efforts of the United States of America in support of Libya at all international forums, demanding that the US work with the international community to limit regional and international interventions.

Al-Haddad stressed keenness to unite the military institution to impose security and stability, and to achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people for a civilian state.

For his part, the envoy praised the efforts of the Chief of the General Staff to promote the military institution, and his proposal to form a joint east-west force as a first step towards unifying the military institution, whose task would be to protect and secure the borders. Norland stressed the support of the United States of America for this step, as well as the efforts made to secure the departure of mercenaries and foreign fighters, to achieve the desired stability in Libya, and stressed the position of the United States of America on the need to hold elections to which the Libyan people aspire.

U.S. Ambassador and Special Envoy to Libya renews his country’s commitment to Libya’s security and fight against corruption

Tripoli-U.S. Ambassador and Special Envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, said he has spent the three days he was in Libya in contact and meeting with the authorities concerned with the Libyan crisis in order to work towards resolving the crisis and reaching a solution that satisfies the Libyan people, who are tired of what they have been suffering from for a decade, especially from the lack of elections on December 24, 2021, and the resulting frustrations, and that “we as United States are committed to the security of the Libyan people and support investigations into crimes and corruption cases.”

In a press conference held at the headquarters of the High National Election Commission in Tripoli on Thursday afternoon, Norland said that he met with the President of the Presidential Council Mohammed Al-Mnefi, the President of the Government of National Unity “Abdel Hamid Al Dabaiba”, the Head of the government assigned by Parliament Fathi Pashagha, the President of the High National Elections Commission Imad Al-Sayeh and the Joint Military Commission 5+5, and also with the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations Abdoulaye Bathily, and informed them that we share with the Libyan people their frustrations over lack of elections on constitutional grounds whose positive results would have “ended the existing crisis, formed a unified government, and responded to the will of the people and their desire for any foreign power to leave Libyan territory,” but the Ambassador did not specify whether the United States supported holding of parliamentary elections only.

Ambassador Norland renewed talk about possible return of the US Embassy to Tripoli, where arrangements were underway to start providing its services to Libyan citizens, by opening consulates in cities other than the capital Tripoli.

GNU cabinet approves Libya’s accession to the World Energy Forum in Saudi Arabia

Tripoli-The cabinet of the Government of National Unity (GUN), in its meeting in Tripoli yesterday, approved Libya’s accession to the World Energy Forum in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which includes all member countries in the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), making Libya the 73rd member of this forum, the official spokesman of the Government Mohamed Hammouda, announced.

Hamouda said the Council of Ministers approved the proposal to establish an electric power plant using solar cell technology in the Ubari area.

The Council also approved the adoption of the memorandum of understanding concluded between the Institute of Diplomatic Studies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Academy of the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the field of training and development of the staff of Libyan and Serbian diplomacy, and work on the organization of conferences, seminars and training courses.

The Council also approved, in its meeting yesterday, a request to sponsor Palestinian retirees who have spent many years of service in Libya, as well as workers in the private sector (self-employment) that the residence of these categories in the Department of Passports, Nationality and Foreigners Affairs be a special residence for a period of 5 years, with multiple entry and exemption from relevant fees.
