Dabaiba: We seek to launch initiative to hold elections on specific dates

Tripoli-Head of Government of National Unity “Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba” affirmed his government’s endeavor to launch an initiative to hold elections on spcific dates.

Dabaiba said in a speech during his meeting with a number of candidates for the legislative and presidential elections that their initiative aims to set a date for the parliamentary elections, which will lay the basis for the presidential elections, according to him.

During the meeting, Dabaiba questioned the reasons for delaying the referendum on the draft constitution, stressing that it could be a basis for holding the elections. The Prime Minister also stressed the role of parties in the House of Representatives, describing it as important yet missing at the same time.

German Ambassador to Libya: DDR an important issue for peacekeeping in Libya and the region

Tripoli- German Ambassador to Libya Michael Unmacht affirmed that international support for Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) programme in Libya is an important and crucial issue for peacekeeping in Libya and in the region.

This came in a tweet he posted on his Twitter account after his participation in the technical workshop on modalities of international support for the Libyan DDR programme, which was set up by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya in the Spanish city of Toledo, in cooperation with the Spanish Embassy in Libya.

Unmacht also called for the need to unify all regional and international efforts to achieve security and stability in Libya.

Al-Taher Al-Sunni discusses with his American counterpart the challenges facing the political track in Libya

New York- Libya’s representative to the United Nations, Taher Al-Sunni, reviewed, during his meeting with the US representative, Ambassador “Linda Greenfield”, the developments of the current situation and the challenges facing the political track in Libya.

Al-Sunni said in his tweet: “The importance of America’s role in supporting peaceful solutions to the crisis was emphasized to avoid any military escalation or armed confrontations.”

He added, “We discussed international efforts and the various ongoing dialogues and the importance of leading to a national consensus for the completion of the general elections as soon as possible.”

The two sides also discussed “the impact of the current international crisis on Libya and the region, and how to support security and economic stability, not to transfer the conflict to Libya, and end all kinds of foreign interference.”

Chairman of Interior Committee of House of Representatives calls on intensifying work with Egyptian side to respect dignity of Libyan citizens

Tobruk- Chairman of the Internal Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, Suleiman Al-Harari, expressed the committee’s deep dissatisfaction with the situation of Libyan travelers to Egypt through the Salloum land port, expressing his regret and astonishment at the bad and degrading treatment that the Libyan citizens were subjected to at the Salloum port at the hands of Egyptian authorities responsible for the port, which rise to insult the Libyan homeland and the Libyan state, adding that these authorities did not exclude even humanitarian cases that require special treatment.

Al-Harari deplored the Egyptian authorities’ imposition of new fees for entry to Libyans through the port, stressing that the Libyans’ travel brings large sums of money to the Egyptian side, and that imposing these exorbitant fees for Libyans’ travel is not commensurate with the depth of the historical relations between the two countries.

In a statement published on the official page of the Council, Al-Harari called on the Libyan authorities not to be drawn into and take retaliatory reactions against the Egyptian citizens in Libya, and that the treatment should be in accordance with the correct law and full respect for them.

Intensifying work with the Egyptian side to improve conditions at the port, cancel the recently imposed fees, and provide the best conditions that respect the dignity of the Libyan citizen.

The head of the Internal Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives appealed to the Egyptian authorities to take urgent measures regarding what is happening at the Salloum port, noting that the continuation of these conditions will have a negative impact on the relations between the two brotherly countries.
