President of House of Representatives meets a delegation from Benina region.

Tripoli, President of the House of Representatives, Justice Aqila Saleh, met in the city of Al-Qubba, a delegation from the Benina region from various segments of the region. The official spokesman for the House, “Abdullah Blehaq”, said in a statement that the meeting dealt with the emphasis on holding elections scheduled for next December 24, in addition to a number of issues related to the Benina area, the most important of which is the demand of the people of the region to adopt it as a municipality to provide the necessary services to citizens.

Guterres Urges Libyan Leaders to Put Interests of People First.

New York, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Monday called on Libyan leaders to put the interests of their people first.

This came in a press conference, the Spokesman for the Secretary General Stéphane Dujarric held at the UN headquarters in New York.

The Spokesman said ‘we are concerned by the differences we saw between Libyan parties, and we hope that things return to normalcy, and elections held on set time in December, the elections which Libyans await and deserve.

‘The advice which the Secretary General offers to Libyan  Leaders is to put the interests of their people first, the Spokesman said.

Prime Minister discusses with Commander of AFRICOM coordination of efforts to combat terrorism.

Tripoli, The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity who is also Minister of Defense Abdul Hamid al-Dabaiba met this morning in Tripoli with the Commander of the US Military Command in Africa AFRICOM General Stephen Townsend, in the presence of the US Ambassador and Special Envoy to Libya, Richard Norland.

The media office of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity stated that the Prime Minister discussed with the American side coordinating efforts to combat terrorism in southern Libya.

According to the office, the two sides discussed the file of the mercenaries’ expulsion and the presence of foreign forces in southern Libya, and the efforts made with the bordering countries in this regard. It was also agreed during the meeting to continue joint strategic cooperation between the State of Libya and the United States of America to serve stability and security of the region.

Head of GNU Government Meets Commander of Africom.

Tripoli, The Head of the Government of National Unity, and Defence Minister Abdul Hamid Al Dbeiba met here on Tuesday the Commander of United States Africa Command ‘Africom’ General Stephen Townsend. The meeting was attended by US Ambassador and Special Envoy to Libya Richard Norland.

The GNU Communication Office said the meeting focused on coordinating effort to fight terrorism in southern Libya, indicating that the two sides discussed withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign fighters from the region, and the underway efforts with bordering countries on this issue.

The two sides also agreed on continuing joint strategic cooperation between Libya and the United States.

Moroccan Foreign Minister: Solution in Libya Comes Only From Libyans, Elections Crucial for Country’s Stability.

Rabat, Moroccan Foreign Minister Naser Burita said Monday his country believed in importance of elections in Libya, as a step to pacify the country, and reiterated Kingdom’s support for Libyan institutions.

In a speech before the UN General Assembly session, conducted by video conferencing, Burita said ‘the Kingdom motivated by history and common destiny with Libya and the positive impetus created bu Al Sukheirat agreement is continuing efforts to bring about a solution to the conflict in this brotherly country.’

The Chief of Moroccan diplomacy said Morocco is adamant that the solution of the Libyan crisis can not but be made by Libyans away from foreign interventions, through dialogue to achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people for stability, reconciliation and development.

US Embassy: Head of GNU Discuss with Commander of Africom Developments in Libyan Security.

Tripoli, The Head of the Government of National Unity, and Defence Minister Abdul Hamid Al Dbeiba met here on Tuesday the Commander of United States Africa Command ‘Africom’ General Stephen Townsend.

US Embassy said on its SMS page the U.S. Army General Stephen Townsend, commander, U.S. Africa Command and U.S. Special Envoy and Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland visited Tripoli today with a focus on how the December 24 elections will support the country’s path toward greater stability and unity, particularly in the security sector.

In another tweet the Embassy said Libyan-US military cooperation could help improve Libya’s capabilities to remove remnants of war and to recover from the conflict.
