Mnifi while receiving the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross: Despite his rejection of external interventions, he welcomes the humanitarian work carried out by the Red Cross.

New York, The President of the Presidential Council, “Mohamed Al-Mnifi” praised the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross, at the international and local levels, in preserving human rights, in principle fully prepared to provide the necessary support to the Red Cross to work in Libya, in cooperation with the Libyan Red Crescent Society, within the scope of international law, to achieve the lofty goals for which these two organizations work.

This came during his meeting, today, Friday, at the headquarters of the Libyan mission in New York, with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer, in the presence of the Libyan representative to the United Nations, Taher Al-Sunni, to discuss the latest developments in the situation in Libya, human rights files and public freedoms in Libya.

In the interview, “Al-Mnifi” stressed that everything he did in the Presidential Council was derived from the principles of international law and human rights, referring in this regard to working to release some prisoners and detainees, which is a positive step on the path to national reconciliation in the country.

Mnifi explained that the Presidential Council will focus on the file of the displaced inside and outside Libya, to ensure their return to their cities and families, and to address their conditions, noting that the reopening of the coastal road between the east and west of the country was a positive and important factor in this file.

The President of the Presidential Council also stressed that despite his rejection of external interference, he welcomes the humanitarian work and tasks carried out by the Red Cross, in coordination with the Red Crescent in Libya.

In turn, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross stressed that the Committee is ready to provide all aspects of assistance in the humanitarian fields, and to work within the framework of international law and the Geneva Convention on Human Rights, in order to protect civilians and ensure that peoples enjoy their rights and freedom, in cooperation with the concerned governments.
