Misurata muncipality, and its revolutionaries reject outcomes of Preparatory Forum for National Reconciliation

Misurata– The Municipal Council and the people and revolutionaries of the city of Misurata have rejected the outcomes of the preparatory forum for national reconciliation, which was organized and supervised by the Presidential Council from 8 to 12 January.

A statement published by the Municipal Council declared its disapproval and categorical rejection of the forum and its outcomes, stressing its adherence to achieving true and comprehensive national reconciliation that is based on the Constitutional Declaration and the Transitional Justice Law and bringing the perpetrators to justice, and that the reconciliation be based on the foundations and principles of February, which opened its arms to all spectrums and components of the Libyan people to build a state of law and institutions, which the fathers fought for in the state of independence, and the fathers fought for it in the February Revolution.

The statement considered that the outcomes of the forum were marred by shortcomings in all its aspects, and that what happened was nothing more than a suspicious political deal and did not amount to being a real initiative for reconciliation, nor was it based on the provisions of our Islamic law, the foundations of transitional justice and Libyan customs and traditions, and that the city of Misrata is key in any real project of reconciliation with everyone and for all.

The statement held the Presidential Council and its representative in the reconciliation file morally and legally responsible for what it described as tampering with the reconciliation file and violating the principles of February and social peace.
