Headed by the President of the Presidential Council: Meeting of Libya’s Neighboring Countries in New York.

New York, The foreign ministers of Libya’s neighboring countries held a meeting on Friday evening on the sidelines of the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly currently being held in New York headed by the President of the Presidential Council, “Mohamed Al-Mnifi” to discuss the current situation and ways to restore security and stability in the country.

The meeting dealt with the importance of stabilizing the situation in Libya, and the role entrusted to neighboring countries in supporting a comprehensive settlement that preserves Libya’s capabilities and preserves its sovereignty away from any external interference, in addition to the election file, and the emphasis on holding it on time, as an important step towards achieving stability.

During the meeting, the President of the Presidential Council stressed the importance of the African role in resolving the Libyan crisis, whether through the African Union collectively, or through the efforts of the countries of the continent individually, praising the initiatives of neighboring countries in bridging the rift between the Libyan parties, and advancing the political process, by supporting political dialogue and its outcomes.

Mnifi reviewed the important steps taken by the Presidential Council and the National Unity Government since taking the helm of the country last February, including efforts to unify the various state institutions, which were divided, and the mechanism of action to unify the rest of the institutions, including the military, as well as the launch of a project National reconciliation, which will pave the way for free and fair elections, the results of which will be accepted by all. In this regard, he called for the contribution of neighboring countries to achieving national reconciliation among all Libyans, to cross to the stage of stability and building a democratic state.

The meeting also discussed many current issues, the situation in the region and ways to support the pillars of peace and security at the Arab and African levels, in addition to discussing mechanisms to enhance joint action between neighboring countries in various fields.
